hi all
just thought i would ask on here if any of you have tried NI200 as NR wire in NR-R-NR set ups?? I ask this because i use stainless steel wire as the resistance wire and it is fairly springy so when i wrap a coil with normal nickle wire i tend to get a tight loop where the nickle is zapped to the SS and this some times causes the wick to be strangled as the nickle does not spring back slightly like the SS
i have been on the Crazy wire site and noticed that they do a "Hard finish" NI 200 which has more spring to it
so i thought i would ask before i brought any!! as like alot of you i have a jiffy bag full of spools of wire that i will never use!!!
ta mucly for any advice

well some of the Ni200 wire i have bought from fasttech arrived on reels with the non-resistance wire label, so i think Yes is the answer but am in no way qualified to state with any authority..

He means non-resistance to resistance to non resistance like they use in the subtank occ coils.. although I'm not sure why they call ni200 non resistance wire because it has a very low resistance. I'm sure someone has used nr-r-nr ni200 though although this may be with kanthal, robby maybe?

Doesn't the zapping anneal (heat and allow to cool)) the wire? If so, it will be soft at that point. Maybe quench it in water immediately after fusing it? No eyed deer really

In small amounts nickel wire is virtually no resistance compared to kanthal and the like hence the tag. It adds very little extra resistance when it's the legs of a coil. You could try work hardening the nickel wire to make it more springy

I suppose NI200 is a low enough resistance not to be a major concern ................................... or they`ve been doubling up on their label usage

I can't believe this, I think I read your post wrong bones3 , you want too make your own nr-r-nr wire using ni200 as the non resistance and stainless steel as the resistance wire, is this right?

Tbanks for alll your input guys
Normal nickel wire is 99.9 % nickel Were as NI 200 is 99.6% nickel but still classed as commercially pure
