I bought my first and only e-cig on the spur of the moment, while i was out. Without having researched anything about them. Wish i had seem this forum first. The e-cig i have is this one here:- www.smartcigarette.infoI liked the looked of it because it has the proper cigarette shape. I have just been reading through some of the threads on here and had a look at www.e-cigs.co.uk and found a warning that people with high blood pressure should not use them. I am on treatment and blood pressure is under control. Does anybody have high blood pressure or have a problem with e-cigs, please?

Welcome. I dont have high blod pressure (that I know of) I use my e cig occasionally. Im a smoker/non smoker. Id given up and someone offered my one and I got hooked again.
You should (if you want to) start medium strength cartidges going down to low if youve given up smoking completly. Everyone is different so very good luck waterinwine2009

The Health e-cig is "OK" but it does tend to get a lot of bad press. Out of interest, did you get just the one battery with it? If you really do prefer an e-cig that is closest to a real cig then the Super-mini RN4081 is a good one to go for. The 510 also has the round mouth piece, i'll come back in a few minutes with links for you. Not got any problems with high blood pressure but I would have thought the only thing about the e-cig that would cause it would be if you went for a too high nicotine content.

Hi Chrissie,
Thanks for all the info.
It did come with just the one battery. Also the filters that came in the starter pack are high nicotine content.
The warning about high blood pressure was on the bottom of one of the e-cigs.co.uk pages. There are no warnings in the pack i have.

I doubt any of the e-cig kits will have warnings about high blood pressure. Got to admit that I think starter kits with only one battery are as useful as a chocolate tea pot You can buy e-liquid to refill your cartridges with at several different strengths from 36mg down to zero nicotine. You can also cut the strength of any e-liquid by buying some glycerine & adding it to the e-liquid or even add it to the carts you got with your kit. You can buy a large 100ml bottle of glycerine from most chemists for about £1.00 or a small bottle from the baking section of most supermarkets (next to the food flavourings for about 40p. Adding glycerine will also produce more vapour. Out of interest, how open minded is your doctor? Mine was thrilled when I told her about the e-cig as she thought that nothing would ever help me cut down/give up on real cigs. I just do think it would be best if you let your doctor know so that they can monitor you.

To be honest i have not mentioned it to my doctor, but was going to when i go for my 6 months check up (in two weeks time).
I have been to the smoking clinic at the local chemist and i mentioned the e-cigs, but she said they did not condone them as they did not think it helped people to give up smoking. Only change from real cigarettes to the e-cig.

From my understanding, the no smoking clinics are mainly funded by the drug companies. So they are programmed to "push" the big Pharm nicotine replacement therapies.
Out of interest, knowing that you have high blood pressure, what did the smoking clinic recommend to you?

Welcome, WaterinWine. I think something you should remember is that people who have high blood pressure are also told that they shouldn't smoke!
Chrissie's link to the ECF thread does show the experience some have had with using e-cigs and I've seen other reports there where people who were using medication to control BP have found it has come down so much they haven't needed to take it any more.
Bearing that in mind, it could be well worth asking if your GP is willing to check your BP a little more frequently if you are making the change from cigarettes to e-cigs. That way if it becomes possible to reduce the amount of medication you require it should be noticed more quickly - and who wants to be taking any more pills than they need to??

I understand that nicotine does narrow the arteries, so it's not exactly going to be good for people with high BP - however, it's a tiny component of the harmful substances in tobacco. People will testify to huge health benefits from changing from smoking to vaping. And talking of merely swapping one habit for another, our "westcountrypottery" became a complete non-smoker and non-vaper within a couple of weeks of taking up e-cigs. With motivation, the different grades of nicotine content can make it much easier Anyway, WiW, I hope you've got a lovely adventure in front of you! scylla

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies.
I know i should not be smoking with high blood pressure, but no-one ever comments on the fact. Doctor or the smoking clinic.
The smoking clinic gave me gum and inhalators, they didn't actually mention the BP at all. The gum gives me too much wind. (LOL) and the inhalators make my throat raw and i can't speak for 10 minutes or so. I tried the inhalator without the nicotine, but the shape is not the same to try to give the impression of smoking. (By that i mean making myself think i am smoking), giving my hands something to do.
Then they gave me patches, but as before it is the action of smoking i find hard, especially sitting at the computer. I think i could quite easily give up smoking using the e-cigs.
I have decided that i definately want to give up smoking, but the help? from the clinics has been unsuccessful over the last 6 months. My first grandchild is now 9 months and when i play with her i do not realise that i have not smoked for 2-3 hours. From when she was born i have not smoked in the house when she visits.

Sorry for delay in getting bacl to you Water. I really do think the e-cig will help you & the fact that the clinic are giving you nicotine gum, inhalors & patches, even though you have high blood pressure, I can't see that the e-cig would be any more harmful. Lol as long as you didn't vape it while wearing a patch How are you actually getting on with the e-cig you bought? Scylla, Tree-Peony also gave up vaping a few months after giving up smoking :-)

No problem Chrissie, i've been laying new flooring in the kitchen today.
I do feel the e-cig will help me to give up, it's just finding the right one.
The one i have feels right, shapewise, vapour etc. although the flavour could be better.
Well done Scylla and Tree-Peony, i was hoping i would be able to do the same.
