Is it beyond the abilities of packaging designers to make a box for a 2.2 cm thick atty or mod which will fit through a standard 4cm letterbox?
Preferably even when put in a jiffy bag, but while I'm moaning, why the jiffy bag? How about a plastic covered box with a label slapped on it?

We need pop up mods or blow up mods (not the kind that blow up as in bang obviously)
I assume that you have been carded?

Alternatively... ... get a bigger letterbox.

Or buy a smaller item, there's no real telling what size of packaging will be used for any item as in most cases it's just what they have available. Main thing to remember is if your red carded by the postie, the item will be available for collection from your local PO for at least two weeks, then it will be returned to sender if not collected

I got red carded once over a jiffy bag almost the same size as a DVD case, "too big for the letterbox" was the reason given.
Ridiculous.

Luckily I can work from home so very rarely get carded. Postman hates me though :-) There is however a downside in that the neighbours rarely get carded either because all of the local delivery people know that I am usually home and I am now the local drop off point!

You are of course right, ceedee and car147. And actually my postie is very good. The moan was mostly due to being carded by a less competent organisation. But I do feel that with an increasing proportion of purchases being on-line there should be some emphasis on making things easier to deliver.

I thought Amazon click and collect was good at preventing carding but now I see they are stopping that. Argos collect from eBay is another good one but maybe I should set up a click and collect from my house for a couple of the non RM delivery options

Last I heard it was very popular and reduced Amazon support calls. My local Co-op has Amazon lockers which are even more convenient.

I got a mail this week to say that they are stopping it at my local store. Not sure if its just that store or if they are phasing it out

Tesco do something similar where you can get it delivered to your local store, then pick it up there, would be good business if more supermarkets offered it as a service to their local customers, because they tend to stay open later than other shops, workers could then pick up on their way home from work.
