They've been discussing this mod over at the EC Forums and from what I've read it does a pretty good job of preventing your wick from burning when used with kanthal, to a certain degree that is. But so far the people who have been using it are so far quite impressed with the quality of vape they have gotten from using it.
Although for some reason they are calling it taste control? Is that just a marketing gimmick, or a nice get out clause when people find out that it's not really a true accurate temperature limiting device?
Oh well the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so I will wait until I see some proper reviews of this mod before I would consider buying one.

The question is robby - would you be an Arsolo for buying it?

That`s the suspician ibalders and probably nearer to the truth than TC :) That is one thing that bugs me when they call these devices Temperature Control when all they really are is Temperature Limiting devices. But on hearing all the possible bad aspects of using Nickel or Titanium wires I would love to see a true Temperature Limiting device for Kanthal. :) It's a lot easier to work with as well, and I like to dry burn my wires now and again which is not possible with the former two wires.

£70 shipped is a good price for this. The others have this for over £100 on pre order.

Don't get me wrong he is a good bloke that works hard to do the best review he can and is open about his methods and the limits of his knowledge. ETA I really have been saying it for ages: from Jan 3rd link1link2or about this mod June 30th link 1link 2

I'm not sure anyone is touting the Asolo as TC for kanthal. However surely 'burn control' is what TC is all about in real vaping situations, and it seems to do that. To me this is all semantics. Who apart from those who have bought too much cotton, burns the stuff just for fun? We vape liquid, not bone dry cotton.
Lets face it no device can accurately tell me what temperature it is on the coil. The temperature is all inferred from changes in resistance etc. None that I know of measure it with a temperature probe. My view is that we are just opening the door to this type of vaping. The next 12 months will see new developments I'm sure.

Lets face it no device can accurately tell me what temperature it is on the coil. The temperature is all inferred from changes in resistance etc. None that I know of measure it with a temperature probe. My view is that we are just opening the door to this type of vaping. The next 12 months will see new developments I'm sure. Never for me, I switched to temp limiting 11 months ago and it has never been about burn control, very few vapers need a device to prevent dry hits after the first few we almost all learn how to avoid them. The history is when Dr Farsalinos announced he wanted to do a study on the production of Diacetyl & Acetyl vaping at various temperatures and Evolv developed the DNA40 to try and get a safer device on the market before the FDA deeming process finished. The study still hasn't published, but Dr F has said that we get that burnt hit flavour when it starts to be produced in quantity. But you know when your liquid changes colour on the wick this is a sign that some chemical reactions have taken place, so limiting the max temp your liquid gets exposed to will limit the extent of these reactions. So for me and some but apparently not all vapers we get a cleaner flavour from temp limiting, the coils and wick stay cleaner as well. Lets face it no device can accurately tell me what temperature it is on the coil. The temperature is all inferred from changes in resistance etc. None that I know of measure it with a temperature probe. My view is that we are just opening the door to this type of vaping. The next 12 months will see new developments I'm sure. Not true, they are more than accurate enough with Ni200, less so with other metals. A good device, not just the board the 510, atty coil and connections need to be good will be more accurate that a probe, even a very accurate probe would not be good for vapers there is too much variation in coil size, number of coils and hot spots that make working with the coils directly the best solution for the open system (510 connection). With an virtually pure metal or accurately mixed alloy the TCR can be easily measured over a range of temperatures, they are not always one value. The results can used to accurately measure the temp form r and this is how probs generally work, but they are not the same shape as a coil so can only measure one point or are big because of the probe casing so take a few seconds to get a reading while the probe body heats or cools. The electronics and sw need to be good for really high accuracy, ideally the manufacture has added some compensation for the resistance in the device, the temperature conductivity of the device, the heat caused by charging and discharging the particular battery amongst other things. Even a more simple device can do a good job and if they are consistent but 20 F out you can just adjust to taste.
