I've also found the subtank mini coupled with an Istick fine for a newcomer to vaping. Higher resistance coil with the airflow turned down seems good for mouth to lung. With the option of progressing, or not, to lung hits if they want to. It's easy to clean and throw a new coil in, and it has an RBA if they want to progress to coiling their own. As far as I can see it's got it all.

Great post chykensa and one that every newbie lucky enough to find this site should read. I was introduced to 'vaping' by a work colleague who gave me the address of where he'd bought his kit... found the site and thought 'what the hell is this, is it legal or something else' with it's 'devils motifs and other images'. So started 'googling' like mad to get more info, found one forum that had had an episode with this vendor, which intrigued me even more. Then found my home (here)... and bought a good kit... and the rest is history!

I notice the last post on here was about a year ago, I have been non smoking for two weeks (basically health reasons) the first week was cold turkey and painful. Last Friday I purchased a nicolites starter kit and a second the next day as the battery couldn't match my needs, obviously the cartomisers are not cheap, but short term are doing the job. I patently need to move to a cheaper/better option, what would your suggestions be, simple is best at this point.

I'd recommend an Istick 30 (or 40/50) and a mini-nautilus tank.... the de facto starter setup and will keep you satisfied for at least a few months while you delve into vaping and understand your needs better...

Thanks Pipeman, I have looked at them and as you say they do seem to be a popular combination. My main concern at this point would be the different handling technique to a conventional roll up (which was my weapon of choice). Sadly the more reading and research I do, the more confused I get, and a lot of information available is clearly biased on suppliers sites. I do now know it is possible to 'refill' the cartomisers a few times, and have experimented with a couple of juices to improve the taste element. I suppose I'm just reluctant to buy in haste and regret at leisure.

I purchased a cig-a-like kit to get started and went back the next day (to Morrisons) and emptied their shelves. These systems are bad and expensive. I worked that out a month or so into my 'experiment' with a rip-off cig-a-like kit. I would suggest a refillable system with replaceable atomizer coils. Something like the Innokin T18 might be good. www.amazon.co.uk/INNOKIN-Black-Endura-T18-Starter/dp/B018ZDUJDQ

You are almost certainly right that a new thread would have been better djs, I am however a big fan of recycling and this thread was presumably intended to help people like me, so rebooting it seemed a good idea at the time. Your suggestion is probably more in line with the style I have been looking at. At some point I will need to visit a shop and physically handle some of the options, it would be nice to be able to 'hold my own' in any discussions though. I suspect having a system with backup would be a smart move? I have no intention of going back to smoking, and have thrown all my roll up paraphernalia away. I am however very conscious that it would be very easy to get back to old habits.

Brilliant post, the voice of reason and experience chykensa. I've just had a colleague at work approach me regarding the equipment he had purchased from his local B&M store. On producing the goods, he thought he had purchased an istick 20w and a nautilus mini. On closer inspection, the istick is a clone, the tank looked authentic but not having a great deal of experience with that model, I couldn't say with any certainty. So istck 20w clone, mini nauty with 10ml of juice allegedly thrown in for free = £70 He knew by the look on my face that he had been taken to the cleaners for his hard earned cash. The device, as far as I could tell was faulty, it appeared to be firing at full power no matter what it was set at. I tried a kayfun on it 1.2 ohm, 9w and it burnt the wick on the third drag. A new coil for the nauty lasted a whole 5 minutes and that was burnt too. So not too happy, he asked what I was using which was a sigelei 75w with a sub tank mini and another colleague who was using a smok xpro with an atlantis. He is now using a sig 75 and a subtank mini which I sold him and has been doing so very happily for the last 10 days, those 10 days have been completely fag free. What I've done on this occassion might incur the wrath of a few members here, starting somebody off sub ohming and some may say I have been irresponsible by doing so. Having spent a few hours explaining all sorts to him and learning him about safe vaping, I can live happily with the decision I've made. I feel it would have been irresponsible if I had said nothing and allowed him to go off and purchase the set up on his own (which he would have done anyway) and he ended up getting things wrong, causing personal or property damage. The information given by chykensa is spot on and the actions I exercised above are not what I would normally recommend, but on this occasion I was caught between a rock and a hard place. Hello striker42, I'm new on the e-cig forums, can I just ask you please, if your from the UK? AS we have B+M shop's here and I've been looking all round them and the ones I've been in don't sell Vaping goods, Everything "DIY, food, liquor, furniture" but no vape tackle, Or are you in a different Country?? As I keep seeing forum members saying they've bought vape goods in B+M.

I think B&M that striker42 and others may have been referring to was short for " bricks & mortar" store; a term often used to mean not an online shop, but one on the high street. Not to be confused with B&M discount chain of shops, which is probably where the confusion lies.

In this instance B+M means bricks and mortar vape shop i.e. high street vape shop and not the chain called B+M
