I have started a campaign to help rescue thousands of refugees currently stranded on the small Greek islands, having fled from nearby Turkey as they escape war and death in neighbouring Syria, and other war torn countries.. The campaign hopes to raise sufficient funds to charter a ferry. It is time for people who care about humanity to take action, to help ease the misery, I urge people to support this appeal. The appeal has been started on crowdfunding site Just Giving. crowdfunding.justgiving.com/shiptoshore with an initial target of £50,000. The goal is to raise sufficient funding that a ferry can be chartered and allow those stranded, free passage to the mainland. While the Greek government have already done this on two occasions in the last month, the reality is that the refugees continue to come. Having risked their lives to cross the sea, they then become prisoner on the small islands. The islanders themselves are overwhelmed by the numbers, and the refugees have few resources to live, eat and shelter. They are forced to live in wretched conditions for weeks with limited shelter and sanitary conditions. Those with sufficient financial means can escape on the regular ferries that visit the islands. Those without are left to suffer. Chartering a ferry will allow all the opportunity to move to the mainland where more resources are available to help them on their journey to safety. As with all crowdfunding appeals they are limited by time. So time is ticking on this one if it has a chance to succeed. As I have said on my appeal, should the money not be spent on a ferry, then all the money will be donated to The Red Cross. Either way the misery being endured by thousands is a little easier. Many will have seen the link to this appeal in my signature. Please support it, and just as importantly, please pass on the link though social media as much as you can. I appreciate that not all have the same views as me with regard to the refugee crisis. That's fine. WE live in a free country, having opposing views are allowed and often encouraged. So apologies to those who disagree with my intentions. Just to put the record straight. All monies I receive from Just Giving at the end of this appeal, will be used to pay for the charter of a ferry, or if not, donated to The Red Cross. I will not get, and do not want, a penny for promoting this appeal. Just Giving do take a small percentage of monies donated to cover their cost which is beyond my control. I am more than happy to provide bank documentation to any who ask. Thanks for your support.

Bobsbeer For any Christians reading this is just the good old Good Samaritan, for others this is just the human/right-thing to do.

Its criminal how the Governments of this Country have treated our forces and people (such as translators and contractors) who have risked their lives trying to help us

Totally agree. I'm a former Royal Marine, so know exactly how this government treats ex servicemen. But lets not get distracted here. This thread is about helping the refugees. Even if you don't donate, please spread the word about the appeal.

Posted over at UKV I can't find it on UKV, so guessing it's been removed? ETA, if this thread degenerates in the same way as the others on this same sad issue, it will also be locked.
