so I was thinking about moving from baccy to vaping for about 9 months and have spent a fair amount of time trawling around for information and so on, I figured that being allergic to a few things and suffering from asthma I should probably steer clear of pg mix e-juice, about a week ago whilst I was browsing around trying to find a kit that fit my budget I stumbled across this link starter kit which seemed to fit the bill in terms of getting everything I would need in order to try and transition away from baccy.
my next step was to buy a pure vg mix e-juice and I googled for some recommendations and ended up at the medusa juices page, thinking well I only smoke couple a day I opted for a 6mg fruit flavoured juice and it arrived the following day, the starter kit arrived at the same time so I eagerly unpacked and read the rather sparse user guide charged up the battery and then filled the tank.
I found it was pleasant to taste, easy to suck in a lung full and apart from getting through 1/4 a tank in a couple of hours I didn't have any ill effects, but by god was I in need of a real fag 20 minutes after I put it down, slightly disheartened I went to the shop and bought a pouch (mine had run out the night before) and then I started trying to find out why this was so.
finally I ended up on here and saw a thread about conversions etc and realised I had made a tremendous error in nic strength, no problems I have since ordered some e-juice from another vendor that also does 100% vg in 24,18 & 12 mg strengths and hopefully one of them will be correct for what I need ot kick the baccy to the kurb.
so far then not totally positive but also not actually that bad an experience for diping my toe in as they say.
I realise most here probably use mods and sub ohm kits but to be honest I rather just buy some bits off the company and swap out the coil/wick as required without having to try and work out how many turns etc (just doesn't flick my switch) so on the basis of that I have one burning question, is the kit I bought actually any good ?
I ask because most of the starter kits on vape sites seem to be in region of a hundred quid (way out of my range) and also I have just seen people mentioning that vg e-juice isn't good in cleromisers yet the liquipal websites claims their kit is great for any mix from 100% vg through 100%pg so i'm a little bit confused about that.
any how hope to make a few friends and get some advice off people that know a lot more than me

Welcome nanotm. Yes you have done the right thing by increasing the strength of nicotine to start with. You will find that 24mg is a good place to start, but don't make the mistake of coming down too quickly. Give yourself time to adjust to the difference between smoking and vaping. Persevere and you will do it. Ask on here if you have any questions. As the saying goes, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. They are a friendly, generous and knowledgable lot on here so ask away. Edit: Your link doesn't seem to work. It links to your post.

Hi and welcome sorry your link is linking back to here not to the kit you have so I can't help with that. I started on 18mg juice but I was on 20-30 cigs a day. I didn't get any real cravings for cigs but the first few days I finished the pack I already had opened. I found that I preferred the taste of vaping and was coming in and having a vape to take away the cig taste. It took a few days to totally switch but I didn't put myself under any pressure as my aim at the time was to reduce smoking it just happened naturally. I started on a basic kit from eBay but I wouldn't recommend that I haven't spent more than £20 on any of my batteries but the one I use now is a bit advanced for a beginner. I use various tanks and tend to spend between £7 - £10 it suits my needs. With the vg juice it's the thickness of vg that makes it harder to use in tanks but can be thinned down with distilled water or vodka so I expect that is what you have bought.

Hi and welcome, not sure about the kit you bought as the link just points to your 'hello' message you dont need to build coils and wick them if you dont want to, many atty's are compatable with premade heads.. and prr in here has been known to recoil dead coil heads for folks if thats just not your thing.. Enjoy..

thanks for the reply bob, and for confirming that I should go with a higher strength e- juice at least to start with. i'm still sucking down about half a tank a day on this 6mg stuff but ive been having less rollies than before (down to about 5 a day from around 15) but I have been finding it leaves me with a not unpleasant film coating in my mouth which I understand is to be expected if your sucking in too often on the vape tube. any thoughts on my choice of kit good or bad ? to be totally honest I saw the price on amazon and just couldn't believe it was so low given all the other prices around, with pretty decent reviews from people buying it so I took the plunge and figured if I needed to I could always get something better for Christmas with all the cash I save on my £120/mth habit well supposing the other half doesn't find something else to spend it all on any how

Hello & welcome nanotmThe kit you linked to isn't that cheap & the e-liquid it came with is zero nicotine.

Well the starter kit you bought is par for the course, similar to what i first bought and similar to many vapers first kit.. it works but you may find that other kit will work better.. the next step up is to batteries or mods with a bit more life and more control features.. eleaf isticks are popular 2nd purchase batteries, (wot i went for) A stainless steel and glass atomiser with replaceable coils would be a good atty to go with the istick, atomisers like the eleaf GS16 or kanger protank perhaps? the kit you have and the recomendations above are all quite tight draw solutions mirroring a cigarettes behaviour, for a suck into the mouth and then lung vape. Most cutting edge atty's these days offer a much more open draw which facilitates the direct to lung inhale vape and the kangertech subtank plus or mini or nano are good examples of this style of atty. and with the air in control ring you can set the draw from a ciggy-like tight draw to a full open straight to lung hit or anywhere inbetween the far east sites like fasttech and gearbest will sell kit at a significantly cheaper price But you will have a week or 2 delay waiting for postie.. hope thats usefull..

nanotm The kit you bought should be fine for kicking the rollies it's not the best performing or value for money kit about but it should do the job. 18mg - 24mg should be good for that kind of kit, you probably could get away with a lower strength with a kit that produces more vapour per puff. I'm sure by the time the kit needs replacing or doesn't suit your needs any longer you'll be more familiar with the types of device available so won't go listing stuff now.

Welcome to AAEC Your kit is likely fine to achieve your goal. It's the style many, including me, started on. Whether you decide to progress onto something bigger and "better" is upto you but it's really not necessary IMO. The question is do you just want to quit smoking or do you want a new hobby ? Whichever way you go and regardless of your budget you'll get all the help you need from lots of knowledgeable people on the forum. Like most hobbies, should you go that route, you can find yourself always chasing the next best thing & you WILL be encourages to do so should you show any signs of weakness in this direction Some quit overnight from day one and others cut down the cigs over time, everyone is different. But most do achieve their goal at some point and many many folk in here have been spmoke free for many years

thanks for the info and the advice peeps, I've tried kicking the habit a dozen different ways in the last 16 years but none of them have been successful so far I'm hoping this will be the way, to be honest I don't really care if I vape for the rest of my life just getting rid of the cancer sticks will be a result and yeah chances are if it works for me I will move on to something different in the future and if swmbo allows home mixing (providing that isn't banned in the next few months) just so I can be totally sure of what I'm using but that's a ways down the road for me right now, as my missus keeps saying baby steps don't go all crazy then sulk when you realize its an expensive mistake .... but as I say I am hopeful and so far I have to say I defo prefer the gentleness of the vape to cancer sticks just need to get the dosage right, stupid thing is I tried that gunk they give out in the anti smoking clinics and everything they gave me left me with a blazing headache within minutes so I went ultra low here without fully checking it out, still hopefully i'll get a chance to use up the stuff I already bought in the future

Hi and welcome nanotm. You seem to have your head around this vaping malarky. I think you will be able to forget about tobacco products sooner than you think. I too tried, and failed, with all the other NHS prescribed or advised methods. Vaping an ego type pen, like the kit you have, started me on the road to vaping. Now it is more hobby, and I never think about smoking any more. In fact, I hate the lingering smell it leaves every where it has been. I'm not exactly anti-smoking, but my sense of smell has returned. And I used to smell like that all the time. So, good luck, and ask any vaping questions you wish. None are too silly. We all asked them at one time, and nobody can know everything.
