It really is MrsMac. The first one I bought was a genuine Kayfun, and I'm shocked to report that the second one from M-Vapes (their clone) seems actually just a tadge better (if that was possible), although perhaps that is just down to my coiling and wicking :-)
I may have to buy another genuine (M-Vapes are not making any more Clones it seems :-() as ideally I'd want 3 juices in rotation I think. But, so, so happy and thanks for your comments :-)

Well team, first off, 20 days off the smokes, woot!!!
I love my Kayfuns. I love everything about them. The look, the build quality, rebuilding them and vaping with them. But I keep seeing great reviews and recommendations for the Kanger Subtank Mini and I get frustrated that my personal experience with it was so bad in comparison. So I got the box out again and revisited it this morning.
With the experience I have gained from recoiling and wicking the Kayfuns I immediately dumped the ready made coil that was in the tank and built my own 28 gauge Kanthal 1.6ohm coil and wicked it with the bacon cotton. I actually found the Subtank a little quicker to rebuild than the Kayfuns (the coil sits higher and just less bits to fiddle with in total I guess). I pre-juiced the RTA, filled the tank up and let it sit for 15 minutes, before adding the tighter Kayfun drip-tip. Oh my. It works like a charm. Yes it is still a little too airy for my taste and I prefer the Kayfun's draw for sure, but the vape and flavour is spot on now. The complete opposite to what I had experienced the first two times I tried it. The only thing I can think of is that I had two duff pre-built coils, because I did try two (one that came with the tank and one 1.5 that I had bought). I can't believe it, but my own RBA deck works like a charm.
I realise that reporting this now makes me look a little foolish considering the journey over the last two weeks and what I said earlier, but I think it's important for anyone who might read this thread in the future to know the final outcome. I love my Kayfuns, I use them daily and that won't be changing, but at least I can also now that the Subtank Mini is a good bit of kit and can finally appreciate what all the fuss is about. Sorry about my previous words Kanger, but your pre-built coils sucked (or didn't as the case may be), so it's your own fault eh!
Thanks again all!

Congratulations @hondo on your first 20 days. Feels like a real accomplishment doesn't it.

@kopiert 21 days, 21! 3 whole weeks - woot! Thing is, when I have given up before all I could think about when I woke up was not being able to smoke. Now, first thing I think about is "has the Mrs made me a coffee yet" and "where is my vape" ;-) All jesting aside, thank you for the encouraging words and support mate! 07 tim. Cheers mate, but I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong, I never have. I think it is more important that those who want to give up smoking get the right information, especially in this part of the forum. I have only been vaping full-time for 3 weeks and I already feel I am an expert at building RTA's etc (of course I am not), and it is too easy to forget how confusing it all actually is for a new vaper who is still addicted to cigarettes but desperately wants to make the switch. The easy option when it all gets too much is to go back to smoking, but with the right equipment in hand smoking is the last thing a new vaper should "WANT" to do. I understand my thread has probably not helped at all with the confusion side of things and I regret that, but I just hope that if I am 100% transparent and admit my mistakes that it will at least arm them with some useful information and experience.

What a journey!! Brilliant, I now have 5 Kayfuns, 3 Taifuns (like these but boy are they big) 3 Goblin Minis and a Wotofo Serpant hopefully arriving tomorrow! All my other tanks Protanks and the like are all now packed away. I really must stop buying now but it's so hard when new things keep coming out but I really must try!!

if you can build a leak free goblin mini then you are doing rather well cause they fiddly wee suckers there is that much stuff coming out now that you have to slow down or you will buy everything icon_shoppingm think about what you have and what the latest greatest tank/mod is offering over what you already have kayfuns are just good at mtl with awesome flavor the goblin minis are just nuts for there size and can do mtl and lung hits to give huge clouds(quad vert coils .3 ohms at 65 watts works well lol) never tried a taifun ,might do someday drippers are fun to try makeing silly coils on like claptons ,twisted or parallel as these can make a huge diff to the vape in tanks and drippers

I don't know if I have just been lucky but I haven't had a leak yet from the Goblin Mini, I just do the bunny tails cut off level with the chimney and gently tuck the cotton down and it just seems to work, hope I haven't spoken too soon! You are right about the buying new stuff when I first started I had no idea I would accumulate so many things in such a short time. I am seriously stopping myself from buying anything more except some juice, I think, no, I know I have everything I need now so will stop looking at anything new and save myself some money! I have learnt so much from this forum in fact I have worn out my old computer and now have a new laptop so vaping look what youv'e done!!!!!

You're right quincey43 , it has been quite the journey so far :-) I still love my Kayfuns, but as time goes on I'll admit to loving the Subtank Mini more and more as well. Top fill, coil swap without having to empty tank, easy air flow adjustment, easy to clean, no leaks or floods for weeks, and great RBA deck - what's not to like (apart from the oft' dodgy stock coils but I don't use them now anyway). I have spent a lot of time testing MTL builds in the Subtank, sometimes as many as 4 or 5 in a day, and I still have a few things left to test (30AWG wire for one), but the flavour and vape I am now getting from the Subtank at 1.8ohm and 10w is easily matching my beloved KFL. With the Subtank pretty much sorted I have started to look for a new tank to play with (with MTL potential) and currently have my eye on the following three, which seem popular at the moment. I'm not sure which to go for so I am still monitoring various forum comments in various threads: OBS Crius V3 Uwell Crown + RBA Steam Crave Aromamizer RTA plus Velocity deck Whether I'll be able to MTL (Subtank style) with any of the above is the big question I'm looking for answers on. Again thank you to everyone on the forum for all the help in the past as well as continued help. Nearly 2 months off the smokes (hype) and I couldn't have done it without your support and help. The journey continues but I am having great fun playing with the RBA side of things and it's been keeping my mind occupied and not thinking about the dreaded smokes.

Glad to hear the subtank mini has your approval.. one of the silicone vape bands available from fasttech for pennies can be employed to cover up air in access for mtl use of a normally wide open sub ohm orientated tank, punch a few air holes through one too if needed

@hondo glad to hear that your doing well and enjoying the rba decks, personally I have found that shoving different flavours into the same tank (and coil) gives some interesting results, some of it more pleasant than others but all interesting ive also discovered that with some gunker flavours the coil will effectivly self clean into the tank with a different mix (especially if I do a tank of custard or sweet then switch to menthol) so it I am saving on coils and wicks lol
