And I just heard on the news about e-cigs being available on the NHS. I don't want some gp who knows less than me controlling my vape & with the EU regulation being scheduled for may 2016 I don't want my choice of tanks, juice & mods (battery bits) overly taxed, over priced & reduced in choice.
Basically right now if u can afford to smoke u can afford to vape (use an e-cig). Just takes a little online research (e-cig forums).
That's my two pennyworth & I was an extremely heavy smoker whom nrt 0 work for & I have been vaping for 4 years. Jane

Agree; plus vapers are going to get even more flack if we are seen as getting our kicks for free. Makes it worse that with the ban on most commercial e-cig advertising the only kit smokers will hear about will be crappy med devices supplied by Tobacco Co accompanied by advice from a non-vaping doctor or SSSS (Smug Stop Smoking Service) employee*. If it gets people off the smoking the advice will be credited; if it is a disaster the e-cigs will be blamed. Ramble Ramble Rant Rant ,,,, Edit *Honorable exception for Louise Ross and a few other good guys.

Two variants of Nicoventures' e-Voke - a reworking of their earlier Voke model, designed by Kind Consumer (couldn't make it up!) - received MHRA marketing approval (pdf link) a couple of weeks ago. But I'm sure more will appear before the TPD sledgehammer comes into force. While I agree that the move ought to be positive, there's little doubt that they'll be used against vaping. "No need to take the risk with those dodgy unregulated, untested devices, here's our shiny, expensive gizmo that comes from your trusted doctor..." Love the idea of renaming them SSSS - a few days ago one (I think it was in Sefton) was spotted advertising help to quit vaping!

Taken from the Mirror article, <<<It is likely to cost the NHS £20 per kit and £10 a week for each patient’s cartridges, and long-term health budget savings are expected. >>>
What are they vaping, Gold leaf??????
I had a sneaky peek below the curtain of the cigarette counter at our local shop and the price of the fags I used to smoke are now £8.01 for 20. I used to smoke 40 a day. Going on that basis, one days smoking is the equivalent of 59.33's day's vaping.
A case of the uninformed leading the over paid.

Love the idea of renaming them SSSS - a few days ago one (I think it was in Sefton) was spotted advertising help to quit vaping! They need to have something to stop us doing against the remote possibility that vaping is allowed to stop most of us smoking. Fabulous irony that one part of our joined up health services will be prescribing something other parts are already trying to get us to give up. I just smell a whole family of rats. These free prescriptions will almost certainly be time limited; even those who quit smoking with them will be left with a nic habit intact and no one (except 'us' perhaps) to tell them what and where to get decent vaping kit. Even if the TPD implementation allows any decent legal kit through it will be illegal to advertise it. I may be being overly cynica but I cannot help but suspect that vaping is being set up to fail in public perception and on a grand scale. Result far more effective demolition job than an outright ban. The Tobacco; NRT and SSSS industries can all give a sigh of relief and carry on as before.

As nicotine is also found in Coffee and Tomatoes, I guess would should be able to get these free on prescription as well? Oh dear. That means that Starbucks and Dobbies are about to go to the wall! What a shame.

A case of the uninformed leading the over paid. Good comment! The great gravy train. The NHS is happy to pay an agency (who then pay a doctor) £11,000 to cover one weekend. They are happy to have disposable crutches at £23 per pair. It's easier to buy new than chase people or recycle them. Some trusts pay £100 a pair (for the £23 item) ... because that's how it works. £77 bonus (to somebody) for nothing. Isn't it ironic the NHS that we pay for is now lining the pockets of tobacco companies. The message is good for e-cigs. The reality will be nothing short of a scandal.

£20 per kit is crazy since it'll most likely either be a cigalike or ego battery/batteries maybe evods and a charger, its still no where near that price in the bulk quantities they'd be buying. Even if you factor in some licensing costs and testing and research, that price would not stick for very long and they'd be left with the actual cost of it in bulk which should be way less.
The cartridges make it sound like it could be a cigalike kit though, but judging by the price of the kit, they're probably being charged £10 for 5 or 10 carts thats supposed to last a week. Most likely thats based on estimates that were used years ago saying each cart is like a 20 pack of cigs lol
One good thing is that if its being prescribed then it means its passed all the testing so far to be a safer alternative and way to quit smoking so its set in stone even more than the reports a few months back. Then when people find those kits to not be as effective as the new tanks and multiple flavours theres a possibility to look into it more. Even in the report about being 95% safer they mentioned that its the availability of many types of devices and flavours that is key for it being so successful.
The main issues is if they keep trying to test everything as a medicinal product then its not going to work as theres just too many variables. The best option is have this prescription ecig and at the same time keep all the open systems available as they are now with minimal regulation, then the prescription one can replace the patches and gums to those who may get those from their gp usually and they may have better success with them so in a way won't be a waste at all to the nhs or a waste of time to use, then when quite a few find it to not be good enough they can try the open system ecigs instead.
I wonder though as part of the testing to approve this prescription ecig whether they tested different types of wire etc and tested different flavours to see which is the "safest" or they just tested what they were given and gave it the go ahead. From what I remember from reading the application process it required a really extensive amount of testing and surveys where the results could be used for other ecigs too.

It is clearly not an e-cig as we know it.
