Diacetyl popcorn lung furore

One of the antz's favoured tactics is to decry the potential for ecigs to produce diacetyl, with the associated risk of developing popcorn lung. So in the interests of balance, someone has researched the level of diacetyl produced by an ecig, a cigarette, and a day at work in a factory producing popcorn :

You'd have to vape an awful lot at ridiculously high temperatures to get anywhere near the risk even of smoking tabs.

I can only speak for myself and say that I've never actually been concerned . . . . and have always believed the rumours that have been circulated over this particular non issue in the years I've been vaping are as a result of Journalists desperate to grab a head line - fueled possibly by ' unknown ' forces.

That said, anyone who has a known respiratory condition may like to treat such ingredients with a degree of caution.

I'm not too concerned about my real time exposure, as a I don't work in a popcorn factory and b There will be less exposure in e cigs than I was happy to accept in tobacco cigarettes. So i'm confident that I have, if nothing else, reduced the exposure significantly. The detractors would still beat me with a big diacetyl stick as it was something negative about e cigs, but they can go away in sharp jerky movements as far as I am concerned. Nothing in this world is 100% safe, and if it was it would be a bloody boring place.

Since the VIP scandal, I have avoided certain flavours.

Given what this article says, I'm going straight into town for some custard, some creamy super custard and and some butterscotch custard cream with extra banana cream topping custard.

Just don't buy juice with Diacetyl if it concerns you.

I do think juice needs to be labeled if it does contain it though. Need some better standards in that regard.

You can look at this infographic from vapewild on how much Diacetyl you're getting. (with their liquid) You can see it looks pretty insignificant in that the numbers are so low the risk associated with it is probably equally as low.

I think it would be great if petrol stations had to label all the toxins that a car belches out.

Every time they come up with something else, every time it is knocked down. This is a religious war, there is no logic anymore.

I have to be honest, the only info available for quite some times was "any exposure is bad" and to a degree that influenced me and a lot of other people into considering if e-cigs were a good idea or not and subjectively going with the old adage "better the devil you know" its a hell of a lot easier to read popular press and belive it than to spend hours trawling through the internet trying to find stuff out especially if you rarely get more than a few minutes to spend doing it, when I worked I knew about e-cigs in the sense I knew they existed, and all the press was saying they were worse than fags because of what people were making available to put in them, if that had not been the case I could have converted years ago and I know several recent converts who are exactly like me in that regard.

and this new scare campaign seems even worse and in both cases its being brought to bare by the same people the TCI, all because they are scared that a new safe form of smoking negates them and tobacco can be safely banned, in fact properly regulated e-juice formulations are so ok that they would need to promote vaping as a really good thing to do to drum up more sales, and even if they added in a sin tax of 10% above vat the income drop would be vastly outweighed by the savings in costs to the NHS and employment of all these overpaid zealots that the exchequer would actually make more than it does with current tobacco sales, and they might even realise an outright ban on tobacco was the right way to go .... god forbid they could do away with half a million people costing the country at large more than 12 billion a year in wages and operational costs ....


its no wonder there dredging the barrel for every possible scare story they can make up and get into print, they probably have proof that certain editors did certain things in the past to make they print some of the trash that's been produced in the last month, and it will get a lot worse in the months ahead as they upscale the fudge-o-matic from tickover to maximum overdrive and get every paid stooge with a posh sounding name to create sound bites to support their imposition /

Well I MTL my aniseeds in kayfuns but like to lung inhale my custards at around 50 watts with a dripper, can polish off 10ml easy watching a movie so I'm throughly testing.
