Hi James, How did each work? Which gave you the best experience?
Most seem to agree that Spaced is needed for reliable TC on most devices.
cheers I

I've just started with the SS... but I already can see myself switching to primarily SS in the future. Now to play with different grades. Cheers I

Ive been building contact coils with no problems, part of the benefit of stainless steel over NI or Ti i thought, but will be trying the spaced coil for my next build.

To build contact coils you need to dry burn the coil to get hot spots out and to make it glow evenly and it's advised not to do this with ni or ti but with ss this is fine as it won't create any gases until a much higher temperature than we vape at.. I'd go for contact coils over spaced any day, I find it a warmer vape

my understanding is that the nickel coils need to be spaced as ni200 isnt coated by an oxide layer like kanthal and SS so if the loops touched the current would jupm loops and not run the length of the wire for altering the resistance value.
But as stainless steel is coated with a protective chromium oxide layer it should behave like a kanthal coil not ni200.

Just started using SS too....SS17 built two .4, spaced, one Kayfun, one dripper....DNA200 and the RX Wismac. Running well, like it. Not sure about using the pre heat on the DNA with it, I'm learning, listing, got some .3 SS16 on the way and will try contact. robby has been using it for a while now, sure he can add.

I always use it slightly spaced, but I always use a dripper, so a slow mouth to lung is always a good temp at about 20 watts

I've been using 317L contact coils for ages with no problems. Sometimes they naturally part over time but when I re-wick I check they glow nice and even and job done

So, for all those that are using SS coils .... What's the differences vape wise between the grades, 304,316 & 317 I know from a bit of light Googling that the composition of 304 is reported to vary wildly between manufacturers, and that 316 & 317 contain molybdenum, but ..... Are they all about the same for wrapping a coil What one gives the cleanest taste Any differences in how long they last What's better, value wise Stuff like that, opinions wanted
