Yet again, my plans to kayak this weekend have been blown out (literally!) by the weather. I've just looked at the jetstream forecast for the next two weeks, and there seems to be no let-up in the procession of low pressure systems marching across the Atlantic towards us. We have really heavy rain and strong gales here in Cornwall, and coupled with a high Spring tide on Sunday and Monday, we could get some coastal flooding. I really have to wonder if this winter weather is to become the norm from now on; warm air holds more moisture and is more volatile, so perhaps we just have to develop webbed feet and buy a good quality waterproof coat to combat the meteorological conditions foisted on us from now on Here's a link if you are interested - Jet Stream ForecastWeather Radar - more rain on it's way too!

I've crossed No Man's Land towards the fields and I'm sure I spotted German trenches. I must dash, this mustard gas is making me wheeze.

I blame the Yanks, always sending us bad weather It certainly looks like it's their fault this time, Bob!! the jest stream is unseasonably low - usually at this time of year it's North of Scotland, but now it's down, it takes a major high pressure to nudge it back up. No let-up in the rain for the foreseeable future

Click Overlay Box for other parameters? www.windyty.com/?2016-02-08-12,52.103,2.597,1 Don't know quite where they model from. However, on the Temp/Sea Temp selection you can see the warmth of the sea and air at S. Atlantic. So there's a fair bit of warm-ish water coming up.

Andy (my tag box is not working) have you seen the local news regarding flooding and landslides (including A30 near PZ?) Sounds really bad.

calnorth - just had a look, that sea temp is certainly warm enough to do some damage. Looks like we have a respite in wind for the next couple of hours, then more rain this evening. Loads of flooding in the Cornish lanes - the dry stone hedges are so solid that there's nowhere for the rain to go, and Portreath on the North Coast is in a serious way (see post above). Thank goodness that RangersBillyBoy and I both live a good 150m above sea level!

Why is my tag box not working? Poo! Not just you RangersBillyBoy, so it's not a personal vendetta . . . . the facility appears to be kaput, which does happen on occasions. So it's back to the long way of tagging for now. Having just braved the wilds of Yate Common with my dawgy for 2 hours, we didn't see another soul somewhat surprisingly - I did try to console myself it could have been worse. The wind and rain are lashing it down here!

Thats when nobody noticed me floating my Beetle across long dips in the road where the water table had risen. And I noticed the full force of it around Andover a few years back (A303). I too am at height now...thankfully. Bloody boiler is dripping at IN pipe...in sympathy I think?

theve just issued a red flood warning for my locality on the local river, fortunately its about 50m below the hill I'm living on but If the predicted 30mm of further rainfall today occurs its a good chance that the old moat to the castle will appear to have filled itself again come morning flooding out the town unless the EA relent and allow the north moor to take the brunt of the water logging for us ......
