Genuine question here, have there been many occurrences of a regulated mod actually causing a fire or thermal runaway in the batteries, in normal use? We see lots of headlines about batteries, but, and I may be wrong here, they are usually either during inappropriate charging, or loose batteries in a pocket that then short.
I have a load of Efest Purples, because that's what I could get at the time. I still use them all, every day, more recently I stopped buying them & have switched to Sony & Samsung. In regulated mods I have never noticed a difference between them, they seem to work fine, don't get too hot, & I'm reluctant to throw them away until they stop working.
The press has been full of ecig scare stories related to batteries, but they are in many cases, battery scare stories, the ecig bit is incidental. Marketing claims & overhyping of performance is nothing new in any industry, new, new & even newer improved Daz springs to mind. The consumer decides.

The first battery safety mechanisms is our brain, the second knowledge and if we continue to accept misleading information from manufactures and suppliers it undermines these and should not just be accepted IMO.
There are incidents of batteries venting in regulated mods and we have to rely on our trust in a manufacture to take due diligence to do all that is reasonable to avoid this. The circuit board cannot read the battery label and could take more current than the battery is designed to give unless the designer does some extra work monitoring the battery. Most regulated devices do this I am not trying to scare folks, but at some point less diligent manufactures will expend less effort on this to save a few pence or get to market faster. All we can do is rely on our trust of that brand and it's previous track record to make a judgement and rating a mod at 100 W per 18650 will put them right at the bottom of my list next to battery rewrappers rating 20 A batteries at 35 A.

I saw that Nugget 300w last week and just thought it was insanity for something like that. Might be usable if you carry a car battery on your back. But who is really going to use that sort of power, if it even can produce those numbers which is unlikely.
I can understand that things evolve and become more powerful/efficient and I honestly can't see myself ever using more than 60-70 watts max and most of the time more like 30-40 watts.
Maybe in 5-10 years it will be different, batteries will be capable of powering these 200-300w mods safely, but not as it stands now. Willy wavers will buy them so good luck with that.
I am more concerned about new vapers that fall for the hype that don't really know the safety aspect of the battery side of things. I learned quickly and in my early days had a couple of 18650 batteries in my pocket with a set of keys that I "just popped in there" quickly while I was at work, soon realized my mistake when my leg started to get a bit toasty! lol
A lot of people take batteries for granted and that's where the main issue with these devices fall down and become dangerous. Anything with a battery in it needs some respect, be it your smartphone, or a PV
As for DNA vapes, did not realize they were not well liked here. I have only made two purchases from them and all fine. I ordered two of my IV plus's from them and had a call saying a silver was oos and would I like to choose another color, but then got an email 20 mins later saying they found some silver ones in stock and sent my correct order just fine so communication was fine.
I do understand though that a company is judged more on when there is a problem later on down the line in regards to returns/replacements/refunds so maybe this is where they come up short? I do agree that vendors really should be responsible regarding some of these high powered mods and include full specs and make it clear to the end user what they are buying.
