I was on JPS for yrs when I was on a ferry a lot so got duty free, then moved onto G.V roll ups for 20 odd yrs On the south coast but I cant say i'v really seen a regional bias, maybe a age thing/fad though @broadblaster you realise the idea of being a stowaway is that you get off the ferry somewhere and not stay on it for years. Dam i knew i was going wrong somewhere oh and i did smoke senior service of a while when i could get them.

I started on No. 6 or Gold Leaf (they were really short in comparison to modern fags!), and Rothmans if I was flush. Gravitated to Peter Stuyvesant which I smoked all the way through Uni, then discovered Marlboro. About 20 years ago, I realised that the prices were becoming prohibitive, so moved to Golden Virginia with the (then new) menthol filters, and more recently smoked a pipe too, using Cherry and Vanilla pipe tobacco from a good old fashioned tobacconist in town. The only thing that would encourage me back to tobacco would be the pipe . . I still have it somewhere, for nostalgia more than for temptation. I think that's where my love of Vanilla Custard comes from, although I hate Cherry flavours as a vape

Started on the odd No6 out of my dads packet, then Peter Stuyvesant! Cos my teacher used to smoke them and I thought he was cool ha ha! JPS then b&h, then silk cut until prices started going mad in the noughties, lambert and butler for ten years, a brief time on Mayfair then went on to drum tobacco on the duty free about 3 quid for 50g, then vaping three years ago, when I smell fags now I literally recoil, they're vile

In summary:
Rollies seem to be the most popular choice largely due to their cheaper financial implications.
Some have said here that rollies are the only tobacco to deliver a satisfying smoke. One can't argue with that. I think it's fair to assume though that rollies would not be so popular if a pack of cigarettes was not outrageously expensive.
If the govt really cared then they'd raise the price of rolling tobacco to a comparative cost of tailor made cigarettes.
Thank-you all for taking part.

When I started vaping the cost of one week's rollies (I was smoking an ounce a day) could buy 3 months cartomisers from china and I was paying off a lot of debt at the time It was a no brainer!!!

I started smoking aged 15 on park drive I think they were called , You could get singles for about 5p from corner shop which they then put in a sweet bag Got a Sunday job washing up in a small bistro and money was great and with tips doubled my wage so I was able to afford packs of 20 Consulates, then went on to Regal. I remember when cigs went up to a pound a pack and thinking how can i afford to smoke but I did. When I found ecigs back in 2009 I began only using them where I couldn't smoke. In the few years before I gave up ciggies for good I was smoking normal fags + Amber Leaf roll ups with menthol tips when I was skint and vaping in between I smoked menthol fags for years and I vape mostly menthol now.I used to smoke the cheapest that was on offer that week as long as they were menthol and to be honest I cant remember for the life of me what I smoked when i gave up mebbe it's my age Jules.

Rothman's singles from the shop near school & a pack of 20 when I had enough dinner money. Couldn't pinch Mum's, as she smoked menthol though I quite often nicked the odd one of Dad's Café Crème cigars or Winterman slim panatellas, when very desperate, even cuffed on one of his pipes that were racked up. Then JPS, next JP Blue, Superkings & finally B&H Gold. On a night out, in my younger silly days, I did quite often take out Sorbranie Black Russian or Cocktail cigs & sometimes Rothman Royales or More.

The pipes were rank, poochops , the Café Crème I did enjoy though & I did buy them too on the odd occasion for something different. Wouldn't want to try them now though...

I smoked Marlboro lights, waking up I the morning with a packet of jps was a sure sign of a good night out when that's all the fag machine had left.
