If it helps i've just had new bathroom and toilet fitted, east london so not far away and it worked out to about £600 a day, but they did do long days, if you want there details PM me. MP Bit spendy mart166. Whats that for ...all bits, labour and VAT? Time on the mobiles? I had a non Brit sparky(?) try it from N. London. So I asked if something went wrong with his work would he come and fix. Answer was..nothing to go wrong. Yeah right! My concern was the distance and ease of travel etc. Don't answer the question do they? And everything about the rabid application of VAT angers me...very much! It was a bit pricey, but it was quite a job, had new bathroom, downstairs toilet, and bedroom replastered, my usual plumber retiered, but I know he would have quoted me a lot more, not worked 12 hours a day 7 days a week and not given me the joy of listening to Polish radio all day !!! Even though I've had to wait 6 weeks to get this bathroom work done (needed) I am very grateful I'm in social housing 2 days messing around but it's not costing me £600 a day

Social housing costs for maintenance/repairs far outweigh what private contractors charge. They are forced to use *approved* contractors, who have offices, directors, accountants, a fleet of cars/vans, cleaners, etc., while also paying the actual operatives (so called *engineers*) a pittance. Where do you think your council tax goes?

Interesting stuff but I actually own my bathroom etc. Attempting to pay a fair wage for a fair days work looks to be very difficult on either aspirations.
I'm beginning to visualise now the boot of my car filling up with tiles, adhesive and bathroom bits...as with other projects. Perhaps I'll get lucky and find some useful/honest soul?

All my workmen were in house. They all had the regulation jumpers/boiler suits on - hence I knew

FYI I just asked a Plumber mate (time served, Gas Safe etc) what his day rate is for fitting a bathroom and he said £150 and should take 2 - 3 days.
