Thanks guys, I will keep my eyes out for a more substantial mod, and also give my RDAs a good clean up before building. enjay - I presume that the Nichrome 80 you use is better than Kanthal? I have most sizes of Kanthal, but have never vaped with another wire - confidence I suppose - so recommendations would be welcomed on what wire to buy in order to lower the resistance sufficiently. Do you build dual coils, or just a single with a really low resistance? Sorry bud, internet is being a dick at the mo lol. I find nichrome gives a nicer cleaner flavour, the lower resistance just means you can have more surface area for the same ohms. Like with a 6 wrap of 20G kanthal 3.5mm diameter is about 0.15 dual coil. Using nichrome 80 yo0u could do 7 wraps for the same ohms. Then you have the stainless steel wires, 317L is my favourite, seems to be the purest too. With that you're looking at 10 wraps for the same ohms so that's a lot more surface area. With your kanthal if you have 22G aka 0.6 I'd try a straight forward 6 wrap 3mm diameter, that'll see you about the 0.2 ohm area. And yes, always dual coils for me personally. I like to keep it clear of wick under the coil and up behind it to allow nice air flow too, makes fo a much nicer vape imo For wire I use the vape mesh company, never have any problems and they tend to stock just about everything I ever need. Also buy the cotton pads from them, they're my favourite out of all the various wicks I've tried.

bones3 - thanks, I'll have a nose around and see what I can find! enjay - I've ordered some Nichrome from Stealthvapes, and funnily enough the build you suggested above is what I have installed and it works a treat! Thanks for the advice

Try some Stainless Steel wire. Lower resistance than Kanthal and faster ramp up times. Great flavour to.

Yeh ss aka 317L is nice, just watch the ohms cause it's pretty low. Fine by me but you might get a fright lol.
That build I posted is 20G 317L

I've ordered some .45mm SS316 and .5mm Nichrome 80 - should be able to do some experimenting with that selection!

I don't tend to build below 0.2 ohms on a mech and I only go that low on vt4,s tbh you don't use continuous discharge as the pulse rating is something like 20 secs which is far longer than you want to pull on a low ohm build
the tricky part is getting gen hi amp batts but they are getting more common as battery tech improves
that said I do still look at some mods and think pipe bomb for eg a lad at work had a 18650 tube mod kit he had got of the market with a sub tank, not a bad little set up until I found out he was using 2x 18350 batts in because that's all the stall had, he was handed a 25r I had on me and I explained a bit of batt safety to him
at the end of the day as long as you know what your batts can do you should be ok

Not wanting to hijack your thread chykensa ive never used a mech mod but know ohms law for using my mosfet box mod. Would like to get a mech but so much to choose from looking to spend around £50 any recommended tubes for that price please ? TIA

Pulse rating is nothing like 20 second discharge. The only moderately safe figure is continuous discharge and even that shouldn't be taken too literally. There have been lots of cases where batteries with a stated CDR have been found to be untrue, purple efest being a good example of this. Continuous discharge ratings are given for new batteries in ideal conditions, and should be treated with respect. Over time batteries degrade inside so a battery rated at 25 amp when new will have nothing like that once its been used and abused for a while. What also needs to be taken into account is the accuracy of the resistance meter being used. A small error in accuracy here combined with a battery that might be slightly past its best could possibly lead to some pretty dodgy situations. A battery rated 25 amps which for one reason or another really has a safe continuous discharge limit of around 22 combined with a 0.2 ohm coil measured on a cheap resistance meter with a 10% error has the potential for the situation to go bad really really quickly. In some situations and circumstances these batteries really are not safe. Its my belief that they should be treated with caution and that quite a lot of headroom should be left under the manufacturers rating. Its surely better to be safe than sorry.
