Have I got the wrong end of the stick or is there an issue with regard to the use of Menthol in cigarettes and e-liquids?

IIRC, they touched on menthol and what it does to something or other in your windpipe on the Horizon TV programme last week. Nothing I believe, that has any more of a long term effect on you than vaping anything else. Until proven otherwise I'm putting it down to the Anti's clutching at straws, scaremongering and a large slice of bullshit pie. But then again, that is only my opinion Jim, but it is also my opinion that menthol ain't gonna be any worse than puffing twenty five roll ups a day.

Eliquid is fine (proper DIY would be incredibly hard to stop anyway) as far as I'm aware, but as of 2020 menthol (or any flavour that masks the taste/smell of baccy) cigarettes will be a thing of the past thanks to the TPD.

jevans , I think that menthol cigarettes are banned by the TPD, which will.... "Prohibit cigarettes and roll-your-own tobacco with characterising flavours, including but not limited to fruit, spice, herbs, alcohol, candy, or vanilla. There is an additional transition period for the prohibition of menthol flavour in cigarettes until 20th May 2020. "In an in-vitro study of e-liquid flavours in Dr Mosley's recent BBC2 Horizon programme, a menthol e-liquid did not appear to do well when compared with another fruity flavour (pinacolada)... (however much better than smoke from a cigarette). From the UK TPD - Art.20 Guidance, on banned substances in e-liquid (no direct mention of menthol): Substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic (CMR categories 1 and 2) Substances classified with specific target organ toxicity for the respiratory tract (STOT category 1) Respiratory sensitizers Vitamins used as food supplements Stimulant additives such as caffeine or taurine Diacetyl Pentane 2,3 dione Diethylene glycol Ethylene glycol Formaldehyde* Acetaldehyde* Acrolein* Metals, including cadmium, chromium, iron, lead, mercury and nickel Preservatives liable to release formaldehyde.

Thank you all, that has eased my concern.

In the Horizon program we weren't given any experimental details of the research, nor of what else was in the menthol eliquid being tested. So we have no idea if there is cause for concern. The test could have been using ridiculously high exposure levels (anything including oxygen and water can be lethal at high enough levels) or it could have been sensible and valid.
While vaping is much safer than smoking, on the procedure carried out on Horizon, the menthol eliquid came out better than smoke, but not a lot better.

Also it was using a CE4 style atomiser so the cells were probably killed by dry hits lol

Menthol is that bad but you can continue to use it for a THREE YEAR honeymoon period before it is banned. You just gotta love the EU and the TPD. . . . . . . . . . NOT !
