Was thinking to myself why creams and vanillas turn darker than say fruits. I reckon it's because of the presence of AP. So what is happening? If it's reacting with nic what is it turning into? I have a strong hunch it's diacetyl and that's why all those yummy creamy juices taste so much better after a month or so. Have there been any proper studies on steeping yet? Nicotine turns darker on it's own over time via the following reaction: Nicotine + Oxygen = nicotine-N’-oxide (amber in colour). Diacetyl is a yellow/green colour so not in keeping with the dark brown that you usually get with well steeped liquids. There is another problem with your theory that AP breaks down to diacetyl and that is the following: The chemical formula for AP is C 5H 8O 2 and the chemical formula for Diacetyl is C 4H 60 2. Meaning that Diacetyl has one less carbon atom and two hydrogen atoms less than AP. CH 2 is called methylene and should not be confused with methylene blue which is a completely different compound. Methylene has not been detected via GC-MS in any e-liquids that have had AP added to them, even after a very good steep. Another very important point is that Methylene is not a very common compound, it only forms at very low temp and pressure environments and changes rapidly to CH 4 (carbon wants 4 bonds not two) otherwise it is unstable. CH4 is methane or natural gas which is flammable and if it were being produced would cause the bottle to expand.
Creamy juices taste better after a good steep because all the flavours have mixed properly and some of the nicotine has changed to nicotine-N’-oxide as stated above - the reason that some people steep juices with the cap off.

Excellent breakdown there *-SARIN-*. One of the juices I use is visibly browner than the others in my wee collection. Is this because of the nicotine/oxygen mix or the flavourings used? New to this so I don't actually know whether flavourings have a colour or are transparent.

Excellent breakdown there *-SARIN-* . One of the juices I use is visibly browner than the others in my wee collection. Is this because of the nicotine/oxygen mix or the flavourings used? New to this so I don't actually know whether flavourings have a colour or are transparent. Tbh it could be because of a few things: 1) One liquid is older than the others. 2) A lot of flavourings have some form of colour, albeit it very slight in some. 3) It depends if the mixer has allowed the liquid to "steep" with the lid off at their end. 4) How the flavourings break down over time - this is why a lot of liquids have a best before or expiry date on the bottle. The higher the nic content, it's often the case the darker it will get over time.

Thanks *-SARIN-*. Gives me a couple of questions to ask. DiscoDes, maybe you're right and that's why it's that colour
