Hello all Got. me a steam crave squonker and wanted to try TC, but it's only for for Ni.
I'm looking to build a Clapton of fused Clapton.
I've got 24, 26 & 29awg Ni but only 26awg in kanthal.
From what I've read most suggest using 33awg as the kanthal needs to have the higher resistance.
But I'm thinking that the kanthal wrapped around the 26awg Ni200 would be fine, what do you with the greater knowledge think?
Or of anyone can recommend a build please.
Thanks for looking
Cheers
Paul

that's the only way they will work because if you use ni for the outer wrap a swell it just conducts and lowers to ohmage

From my experience with claptons, I've found that the thinner the wrap wire, the quicker the ramp-up/cool down time. I am no expert though. Claptons just allow for more juice to be near the actual heating wire, but stops the inner wrap(s) heating quickly. Not much trickery really, but it drains batteries quicker.

I've been looking for a very detailed hybrid clapton article and table that I found last year... no joy so far but it covered tc with ni200 and kanthal. I have a feeling that I found the link on reddit. This is what I can remember and im not 100% on this. Optimum coils were 28g ni200 with 32g kanthal. Fairly sure they were contact success rate was around 50% due to shorting between the coils of the wrap. Needed to be run 30-40 degrees below because of retained temperature. I think it was aimed at the DNA40 and single coils, duals making balancing pretty tough at 50/50 fail.
I've tried a twisted core all ni200 clapton in my aeronaut, the resistance was jumpy, 0.08-0.14, not the best of vapes. Very pretty wire but plain twisted performed better.
