Since I have mentioned building a DNA200 with a wood box for quite some time, I thought I'd better get it done in time for Vapefest UK 2016. This is the album containing the photos of what I bin doing to build the second enclosure (the first enclosure I built which was marginally too small appears as a special guest). From the. . . Ahem. . . Prototype I built it should feel quite good in the hand. It will not be all that heavy since it will have a DNA200 and a 1500mAh battery. Oh and I finish the walnut with matt varnish to retain a more woody look/feel. I bought laser cut panels of 3mm thick walnut from ebay as well as a razor saw for dovetailing joints small scale (prototype had straight joints and I was worried about strength). EDIT: Also thought I should mention to any woodworkers out there I haven't done any of this kind of stuff for 20 years so while the results are far from perfect I think I've no done bad at all !

Unless I'm mean and keep it hidden of course.

Wood and I came to an agreement years ago.
I wouldn't try to work it and it wouldn't split.
Which is perhaps why my favourite wood working tool is a chainsaw.

Looking good Richard, you are a braver than I am messing with that wood stiff! Thought I would resurrect some of my older skills. . . . . . there has been swearing. . . . . . but I am reasonably happy with the results. I know the mistakes I've made and could probably do better each time. For starters I think 3mm wood was a bit of a blunder as it's so delicate and fiddly. If I do more I shall get the 5mm thick wood since I can always mill out a recess for the boards or get/make longer buttons. By far the toughest part for me though is that with my mental health issues I struggle to maintain the concentration needed and make stupid mistakes regularly. One of the hardest bits was figuring out the directions of the joints and sticking to it so the box would actually fit together (I had nightmares about getting to the last face and realising I'd got one joint the wrong way round).

Oh and yes I could follow everybody else and mill out a solid block of wood but hey I like tinkering ! Also I don't have a proper bench milling set up and no real space for all the nice bench power tools (I have a normal dining table). Nearly everything is done with hand tools for that extra special exclusivity lol EDIT: Don't have the space and certainly don't have the money. . . but I can drool a little over proxxon gear.

Yeah I've seen loads of tutorials and tips but sadly they are all really meant for full scale woodwork. I decided to try it out on a model making sort of scale which hardly anybody seems to do lol Well who doesn't like a challenge once in a while ?

That looks bostin. Hats off to you for trying some fancy jointing techniques. I just cut stuff vaguely square and glue em together. Looking forward to the finished item.

That's looking really good bud, my woodworking skills leave a fair bit to be desired, I'm great at building with large scale think 2*4 lol. Nice to see you using my favourite pocket blade as well. The Stanley 5901 pocket knife was my workmate when I used to do firework display, used to go through a boc of 50 blade's in 2 months lol.

If you like that knife handle it is excellent but I'd recommend the swann-morton blades rather than the stanley ones (much better quality). I also use a scalpel, also with swann-mortons finest surgical steel.

Get yer surgical steel from Pakistan.
Which is where the humongously overpriced German surgical implement makers get theirs.
Buy it direct from Pakistan and knock three zeros off the price. Basically Pakistan is where all of the world's surgical instruments are made.
You don't need several millimetres of chrome plating or the surface finishing (Or the profit margin) which is what explains 99.999% of the price of German surgical instruments. Which were made in Pakistan anyway.

Been using them as long as I've been modeling stuff and their blades are top notch. (also got to support one of the dwindling specialist UK steel makers)
