A Message To All Anti-Vaping Idiots

OK, I know this is going to come across as a bit of a rant, but I make no apology for that, maybe after reading it you will understand why…..

I started smoking in my mid-teens and did so until I was 44 years old, so I smoked for 30 years. In the early years it wasn’t many per day, and I was so fit and sporty that the effects were negligible. But, after having to stop participating in sport due to injury in my late teens, the amount I smoked began to increase and the health effects started to become more prevailant. When I met the love of my life, she also smoked, and we did so together..

Over the years I did try to stop, did the usual round of cold turkey, patches and gums, none of which worked for more than a couple of weeks at a time. None of those things did it for me.

Then I discovered vaping in 2012. Novel. Unusual. Enjoyable. It worked.

Gamechanger. Just let me repeat that…. GAMECHANGER.

I got my first setup and have not smoked any tobacco since. Not one more, not ever, since that day. 24mg/ml tobacco flavour juice in an ego battery and CE4 clearo. That was enough for me to stop. For good.

I do keep up with the politics around vaping, and there is one single thing which boils my blood more and more every time it comes up….. the line of “you haven’t really quit smoking, we don’t believe you, there’s no evidence of ecigs stopping people smoking, you’re just an anecdote at best, a liar at worst” that’s been trotted out on a regular basis over the years by those who can’t afford to have vaping succeed and be accepted.

And once again, this line has been used this week, by the lawyer running the tobacco control arm of the FDA in the good old US of A. You know, the one who used to lobby for the pharma companies to get vaping prohibited to keep his corporate masters’ money rolling in, the one who’s been so active in formulating the Deeming Regulations over there, the one who’s surname begins with Z….

Well I have a message for you Mitch, and all of your kind…..

I AM NOT AN ANECDOTE OR A LIAR.

I am an ex-smoker who gave up exclusively with the use of ecigs, and that was almost 4 years ago.

My son, who we found smoking when he was 16 has been switched to vaping and has had no tobacco since. He is now 18 and tries to get his still-smoking friends to switch. I am so proud of him.

HE IS NOT AN ANECDOTE OR A LIAR.

The love of my life, Mrs.G-J, made the switch and is now approaching a year of no tobacco, and she smoked more than I did. I am so, so proud of her.

In fact, every ex-smoker who has switched fully to vaping is neither an anecdote or a liar. Those who are part-way through the journey to becoming tobacco-free due to vaping will be neither anecdotes or liars when they finally have that last fag and go to vaping full-time. There are many of us who are there already, and there are many more on the way.

How many more ex-smokers due to vaping do these people want before they wake up, smell the coffee and see what’s staring them in the face?? That millions of people worldwide have QUIT SMOKING, and it’s thanks to vaping.

If Mitch (or Simon, or Stan, or Martin, or indeed any of the others of their kind) want to discuss whether I and many others like me are anecdotes or liars, bring them on – I will discuss and debate this with any of them, face-to-face. And I will win that argument, as I am here, I am real, I am not a figment of imagination, I am an ex-smoker. I am a person. I am a friend, a son, a husband and a father.

I am a vaper.

I started when I was 9 yes NINE, and gave up totally at the end of Feb 2014 after 53 years of the dreaded weed so can totally empathise with you - well said, couldn't get my late wife to quit though

I think all of us what I would call ' hard core ex-smokers ' get more than incensed when we read the drivel and claptrap put out by so say ' experts ' GunJack on our habit!

As a rule I try and avoid people who I deem to be idiots or have the minimum of contact with them, whether that's in the real or cyber world.

However when these buffoons interfere with our habit, ultimately denying many other current smokers to not have the vaping opportunities we've had with their lies and misinformation - then it does bring out the warrior spirit!

I know categorically that if were not for ecigs I'd still be chugging through 40/50 cigarettes a day - not into my seventh year of being an ex-smoker!

Can only echo GunJack's sentiment and having now entered my fourth year (doesn't it fly, I've been bugging you lot for over 3 years now lol) without having gone near any form of tobacco after 16 years of addiction I have only one thing to say to idiot pharma lobbyists and yes it does indeed end in 'off'.

I think a lot of us have 30+ years of cigarette smoking in our past and relate with all of that.

Because of vaping.......and because I'm a persuasive, nagging bastard ( ) I now don't have a single friend or work colleague that still smokes.

If they made it illegal tomorrow, I'd still be doing it.....and still advocating it loudly.

Started at 11 continued with brief interludes of not smoking, for 47 years, If all they can do is play with the facts and data in order to make a case then they can Foxtrot Oscar for me as well.
The Problem with lying (especially in written form) is you have to have a good memory or it comes back to bite you, so we can expect a few folk to be unable to sit on their pedestal at some point in the future.

I work on a reasonably large site (just over 500) and I am happy to say that vapers are in the majority, not quite as high a percentage as it once was as we've lost a couple here and there, but still in the majority. Of those who still smoke, a few more are starting to show a real interest so fingers crossed between us we can convert a few more over to the light side In fact, a guy in my office who was a dual-fueller for a fair while, informed me today he hasn't had a fag since April, I almost hugged him
