i'm very satisfied with sopcast, but then i don't feed it to a big screen tv. i guess it wouldn't look so appealing. wayne rooney in full sopcast screen might put me off me dinner.

I wouldn't bother with BT vision as they get most of the channels through a dvb-t (freeview) tuner, and if you struggle to get freeview channels now it wont be any improvement, The Humax Foxsat hdr freesat recorder is generally considered the best freesat pvr and is as simple to use as sky+.

If you can get a good broadband signal then you can stream all freeview channels and then (i think) HDMI lead to the telly, and set up. I always watch on lappy with headphones while all the reality programmes are on.... #icon_hopeless#
Theres a box i saw advertised a while back, where you connect it through the broadband connection and watch without the need of a computer, but forget what it was called now. Probably something like bt vision, but im sure it was a one cost type thing with no subscription

Could something like this be a good solution... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cyclone-Nano-Google-Android-2-3-TV-Box-Smart-TV-Media-Player-Wireless-Keyboard-/400270098022#vi-contentYou can plug into your aerial, for the freeview channels you currently get, record live tv, watch media files on your TV, but most interestingly it is an android smart TV device, so you can download android apps for streaming live tv over the internet direct to your TV, (some even Legal, lol )such as this... www.yamgo.com/I believe there are loads more, but haven't really looked. not sure about ESPN in the UK, but a (very quick) google search found this... www.droid-life.com/2011/05/09/watch-espn-app-lands-on-android-streaming-sports-is-go/Not sure if this interests you, but it does me...

Karma you can get a freesat box that has the recording facility, like Sky+, not sure how much they are though, thinking of freesat myself for when my Sky subscription ends next Jan. I bet Sky increases the subscription in August, mind you I'd miss the FX chanel for NCIS though

I'd be very happy with freesat but Hubby needs at least one sports channel

I used to think so but you learn to live without it - just means you have to go down the pub sometimes to see things

I only watch TV at 9pm - 11pm every night, so it is important to me that I have a channel that will give me what I want and FX does just that, you cannot get that on any Freesat system.

I hope ESPN outbid sky for first pick on 3 or more packs, just because, well, I don't like sky.

I didn't think it would be an option, after reading your problems with freeview due to location. If the area isn't densely populated enough to make them big profits, they don't seem to be in a rush to expand the network to that area, it sucks for the customer, but you can see the sense in it. If it's any consolation Karma, their TV isn't that great anyway, Tivo is a really good system compared to my old sky+hd, but the channel choice, and package options don't seem to be as good. The internet rocks though

before you totally rule out free-view/ top up tv ask an aerial rigger to check to see if there's anything that can be done, you'd be surprised at how many places can actually get round it even though the postcode checker they use says it wont work

Dad stays at the other side of town and they were able to move his ariel to pick up from the main transmitor. Unfortumately due to the possition of a stupid hill we aren't able to do that I have though about getting in touch with the council to see if they could move the hill somewhere else, but due to all the cutbacks I can't see them doing it
