Wondering if anyone knows............. We have Sky TV, basic pack with Sky Sports. If we cancelled Sky and just used the box as a freeview box would we be able to subscribe to ESPN? The last time I looked into this we couldn't, we needed to have Sky sports and ESPN as an add on. Just wondering if things had changed

I got a good deal from Talk Talk for my broadband and phone. Unlimited broadband and free calls all day for about £28.

I thought ESPN was independent to sky (but dont hold me to that), unless sky have brought them too.

Thanks Gaz VJ, it is but you can only get it on sky if you subscribe to a sports package, which you can only get if you subscribe to a basic package > Where we live, we only get a handful of freeview channels as we are on an ancilliary reciever or something ??? When we originally went digital we had the experts out to try to tune us into the main thingy but because of the hills it's impossible. I've been looking at the Top up TV site, but I'm not sure if wwe can get all the channels here

I think you can get ESPN on digital freeview with a subscription and CAM via Top Up TV..But if you cannot get a signal then obviously not..It should be on channel 34. and if you have a TV which will accept a CAM, then you don't even need a box..
You can't subscribe to ESPN as a individual channel without a sky package as far as I know..

What do you get when you turn you TV to channel 34? Do you get a message saying "Scrambled Signal"? CAM is a conditional access module..It decrypts the encrypted signal and is remotely programmable by those issuing it.. It looks like this with different logos

Have you re-tuned your box recently?
Not sure about your digital changeover date but we had to re-tune our tellys on 4th April and 18th April but it looks like your only option at the moment is either Sky or tinternet..
TalkTalk TV do it but it's no longer available to new customers...

We were the first region to go digital a good few years ago now. The part of town where I live couldn't get any digital signal until the changeover date My Dad was already able to get freeview before the change, and he gets loads more channels on it than we are able to. we don't really seem to have any option but sky at one point we were using our sky box as freesat and not paying a subscription and were able to subscribe to just Sandander (think that's what it was called?) but that channel went bust I've e-mailed Top up TV so i'll see what they say. Just hate paying Sky all this money i'll look into the internet option as well, thanks guys

Personally I would avoid top up tv like the plague my grandparents had it and for the first year it was ok but from then on they've had nothing but trouble! Top up stopped sending programmes through to their two boxes, even though my grandparents were paying 25+ a month and top up also signed them up to a new 18 month contract without asking, without my grandparents knowledge/them signing anything. They take card details as opposed to bank details and take random amounts of money out of my grandads account for no reason (other than the agreed £25) The reviews online for the company are not very good either Obviously it may just be a one off bad situation with my grandparents but I wouldn't want you to possibly end up in the same situation.

Thanks Bee, good to know, I don't like companies that take card details instead of direct debits
