Plenty of sport channels available through the likes of sopcast , unfortunately they lack the quality that we have become accustomed

karma try a freesat pvr like the humax range we have freesat and get loads of channels (most are crap)
also from what i understand freesat doesnt need to be retuned as they are from a satelite not terrestrial
we wanted an option of hd channels but not to give my hard earned dosh to sky and this was the better option i have an old sky box in the bedroom not connected to sky and some of the channels are still scrambled despite them being available on freesat
if you went for a freesat box it uses the same satelite as sky so you wont need to move your dish you just replace the freesat box with the sky one and do a first time set up

Ok Colli, that sounds like a solution and I presume humax you can record like shy+? My son has an old sky box in his room and you're right there isn't as many channels available as freesat.

Do you know if we could get ESPN if we got a freesat box?

karma you have to get a twin tuner to record and watch another channel

On freeview my espn channel is scrambled
and on freesat it is not showing as a channel at all I'm afraid

Thanks Colli, worth checking out and seeing what channels we would get. Pity about ESPN though, hubby really likes having a 'football' channel. Sky is such a rip off

It would certainly be worth re-tuning your Freeview Karma as Macca says . . . we've been digital here for a couple of years as well, but I still got the re-tuning messages at the beginning of the month.

There seems to be quite a few more channels now.

You can't get ESPN on Freesat..I did look at it as an option for you as one of my TV's has got both Freeview and freesat tuners built in..

Freesat Humax boxes with twin tuners are available and function very much like Sky Plus but they cost in the region of £200 when I last checked..

There is another option which is to buy your own larger motorized dish and pick up European channels and you may get ESPN that way..You'll have to speak to an independent dish installer in your area..Outlay will be expensive but may work out cheaper in the long run..

I got a Humax Freesat with twin tuners and hard disk from Richer Sounds (there are several models) - a good deal with an extremely reasonable guarantee option as well. Like macca says they cost just over £200 but even with a minimal sky package you soon pay that back. They work extremely well once you get used to them and I was very happy to dump Sky
You cannot get ESPN that way, but you can link them to a router and get things like BBC i-player.

echo what dave has said linking to router and check out the likes of cash converters shops i picked my humax up from there for £80.00 (500gig) they didnt know what they were selling so i got me a bargain
saying that argos do a few cheaper brands from around the £130 mark last time i was looking
