I decided to rebuild a clone VCMT just now, and rummaging through my wire box, I came across some SS316 .45mm wire. On a whim, I decided to use that, as it was still as it arrived in the post some 6 months ago.
Although a bit more pliable and therefore a bit more tricky in the KuroCoiler, I knocked up a pair of coils around a 3mm ID, 10 wraps, and they fire at .23ohm.
I have read about the faster ramp-up time of SS wire and the clean taste to the vape, but I wasn't expecting the VCMT to be quite this good! The vape is produced almost instantly, unlike Kanthal which gets there after 2 or 3 seconds, and the taste is bringing out new notes in my Vanilla Custard homebrew. I started off at 50w, and am now up to 70w; I may get adventurous later when I can produce a few larger clouds and run it up to 100w just to see the results.
I know some of you are dyed-in-the-wool SS users, and I wondered just how much difference it would make, but I might try SS coils in a dripper and a Griffin just to see if they alter the feel and vapour from these too.
I am really quite impressed!

I used ss for a good 12 months and it definitely brings out some sweeter notes for me.i found with fruity vapes I had to turn down the power a little or it would frazzle the juice some though. As you probably know that when dry burning it's recommended a very low glow, much lower than kanthal. I found in TC it was a pain in the as and even my DNA200's loose track with it, even with the latest update. I'm back on kanthal now as atm is my preferred wire in the herakles

Thanks for the reminder about dry burning jtc, I had forgotten although remember reading that somewhere here in these hallowed halls! I'll keep my supplies of Kanthal in reserve, but will try some more builds using SS just to evaluate it some more.

Well you know I'm all ss 317L and nichrome, always better for flavour. Just now I'm still using that N80 build in the vcmt's but got some 19G 317L in one mech and some nichrome 90 I'm another. Both awesome for flavour

I've got SS in my sxk V5 12w @ 0.35ohms, sweet as in power mode. And an Aeronaut with a spaced fused claptrap at 0.2, tc at 240c but ramping up really fast on a DNA200. not quite nichrome flavour and not a total ss convert but ideal for day to day

Can i ask a really stupid question...how can a different type of metal make a difference to the flavour of a juice? At the end of the day its a heating element that evapourates a juice is it not?? Regardless of type of metal...i cant see how it would improve a juice? Id love to know why people think it does so feel free to educate mr stupid (me!)

I've asked myself the same questions. Is there any flavour difference between kanthal and nichrome or titanium and ni200? hmm.... yes some but would I be able to blind test and tell the difference between one element or another? errrr?
My conclusion is rather than the base metals wholly contributing to the difference in flavour its more the way that they heat up. I think some juices do better on a slightly slower ramp-up, I prefer a warmer vape but find the faster heating coils just elimintate the full temperature range. For some reason red astair rocks in my griffin with SS fused claptraps 90w/230c and wicks last the whole week, put in a pair of titanium coils (which was my go to TC wire) and after a couple of days its manking up. Lucky if I get a day with nichrome. They just heat up differently.
As ever its about matching a coil to an atty to a juice.

DNA200 is now very stable with SS, I'm having some resistance wander but I think it's the Griffin that is having the issues.

I have just got 2 iSub V tanks and they come with ss 316l coils. They recommend 190c to 245c, 374f to 473f on the coil, as I have never tried TC what would that be in old money? Cheers tsoko

Oh sorry It's hard to convert like that. Again I'd say start low and tweak up until you're happy. You’ll know when it's getting too hot or dry burning
