Well after last years blood, sweat and tears of turning my bombsite of a back garden into a semi productive set of veggie growing boxes, yesterday I took delivery of some wood and made a start on stage two of the garden make-over.
Today I was painting some of the wood and marking out the lawn where wood edging and the stone circle will go.
The basic design will look roughly like this.
And the central stone area will be like this.
With each of the square, triangular and semi circle areas made up of different varieties of flowers. Each of the corner areas will also have an Obelisk with climbing roses which will be scented.
Honestly, the things some folks do just to amuse themselves!!!!!

I'm not sure just who is enjoying this garden makeover more. The Dog with all the new smells that the earth brings up or the wee Robin that complains bitterly when I am not out on time in the morning to dig up more juicy worms for him to gorge on.
Anyways, tomorrow will be a larf when I get out my DIY Theodolite and start marking off the levels before I place the posts for attaching the planks to.

Och I hope so Chrissie, but like most of my projects, it is a good idea when it is in my head, but as soon as it gets to the practical bit, the measurements start to go awry and I end up making it up as I go along. I know what I want, but what it will turn out like is a bit of a mystery. Still, that is part of the fun. The journey is the important part, not the destination.

The last two days have been nothing but painting, painting, painting. Almost all the planks are now painted and tomorrow we start building, at last. While the basic lay out of the garden will not change from last year to this, the crops that are on a 4 year crop rotation (raised beds) will all move one raised bed so that any diseases that are prone to one crop, will have 3 clear years to die off before that crop is planted there again in the forth year. All that will actually change is the central part from lawn to flower bed. This is what I hope it will look like during the summer of 2017.

Although I have other hobbies, most of these are in limbo at the moment and have been for over 3 years now. However I do have two present hobbies, one being Vaping and the other, my garden. Looking at these from a Joe Bloggs point of view, they couldn't be more different, in that the Vaping gives me instant satisfaction and pleasure, doesn't cost a lot and is an easy and relaxing pastime, whilst the produce from the garden can take 1, 2 or even 3 years to mature, can cost a great deal of money to set up and can be physically exhausting to achieve.
However, both my Vaping and my Garden are inescapably linked. Without the Vaping, I would still be smoking and if I was still smoking I would have nether the finance or the energy to produce the garden.
Vaping has given me the means to turn a dream into a reality.

Well despite the fact that I can only get out to the garden when I have "been a good boy" and she unlocks the chain that keeps me padlocked to the kitchen sink, and ofcourse my vaping savings allows me to buy more wood, my mini formal garden is beginning to take shape....

I know the feeling Andy. For "real life" read SWMBO and "a wee list" of household tasks "that only I can do"!!!!!!
Still, I am hoping to have the hard landscaping done by Christmas or there abouts.
