I have been getting my gas and electric from this company and I thought they gave good value for money, and now I know why. They have gone bust. Oh well I suppose I will have to hunt down a new supplier. If anyone else is with this company, you are advised to take a meter reading as soon as possible, but Ofgem will move you to a new company, but then you need to negotiate a new deal.

Plenty here for the conspiracy theorists. Did big E drive them into going bust? Notable is that the BBC say those owed money will be reimbursed while those who owe money won't have to pay. So were there any companies oweing them a lot of money.
One way to bust them :- remember reorts of the of the wholesale price spiking. So they had to pay big E much more than they were charging there custommers for those days. What if another company owned by big E was a customer of GB energy? Then the could draw loads of electricity and put it straight back into the grid.

Hopefully this won't happen to other smaller and more competitive suppliers. Or cause the big ones to raise prices.

So the question is Switch know whilst prices are rising or wait and see if new supplier honors prices from GB Energy. Think i'll switch.
Gone to Sainsbury's.£3 more a month.£30 back after 3 months

They just sent me a bill too. I was supposedly £25 in debt, so a result there. I have stopped my direct debit, and will wait till Ofgem tell me who has picked me up, then haggle.

A bit of an update on this. GB Energy was taken over by Co Operative Energy. Supposedly on the same terms as GB Energy. Looks good, but the debacle prompted me to look around. Fingers crossed but it looks like I have found a better deal, and cheaper than GB Energy.

Check out this company Octopus Energy. They were recommended to me by 38 Degrees and worked out cheaper than GB Energy were before they went bust. Personally I don't care who I pay for gas and electric as long as I'm not being ripped off like you do if you are with the Big 6. Swapping is easy if you haven't already done it, and worth doing just for the sake of it.
