Just had a catch up on your thread Get Off My Cloud . . . . dear me there are some uncouth berks who have appeared on it, shooting their mouths off! This situation doesn't even affect them, if it did - they might feel differently.

The troubling thing for me is that asking for a false price on the packet is breaking the law. We can't just choose to be law abiding when it suits us. The only problem with the system of collecting VAT is I can't find any info on how to pay the tax up front, if it's possible at all, and avoiding the collection fee.

It's normally the same few gimps trying to get a response. Keyboard warriors piss me off.

Many years ago I bought a quite expensive camera from USA. When it arrived in UK, customs contacted me direct and informed me how much duty was due. This had to be paid before the package was released and delivered. IIRC, there was no Royal Mail involvement or charges.

Who says what the 'value' of an item is. Value needn't necessarily be the price paid in strict legal terms. Is the value different if the item is 1) Wholesale, 2) from China or 3) bought in the UK (maybe not...) If Fasttech sell a product for $20, it could be a $12 product that would cost $30 (equivalent) bought in the UK. The 'value' of that item could be expressed as $12.

Well i kinda figured sod all would be done here is the latest reply from staff. So that's it folks either wait until the pound rises again against the dollar before you shop at FT or if you do shop at FT be prepared for the possibility of getting stung by HMRC and Royal Mail for £11+ on each package. Take note that even if you do take their advice and open a ticket requesting a lower declared value there is no guarantee that they will actually do it, i saw at least one person on that thread say they asked FT to mark their package at $15 and it came marked as $20. Also either this staff member or their colleague is is lying because the staff member i spoke to in my support ticket said they do use $20 as a default value if the goods are over $20. My advice would be if you're going to shop there while the pound is still low make the order as large as possible, it's better to pay £11 in fees on goods worth £100 than goods worth £15 right? I would still also follow their advice and make a manual request on each order too but just don't assume they will actually do it even if they say they will.

I know I might not be the sharpest pencil in the box..................................but, if "we" and I might be wrong, but assuming "we" means Fasstech in the context of the underlined statement, did not set the limit of twenty bucks, who did ? Fobbed off comes to mind. (polite way of being fed bullshit)

Just received a $25 Kangertech Subox mod C kit from Gearbest using Yodel. Shipped from China 8 days ago with 97p express thingy paid. GB show a pic of the package sitting on their weigh scales on my Account/Shipping page. It has two large bar codes on its label and is exactly what I received. No EU warning...no origin cost declaration. Just the bar coding. I suspect that data in the bar code must provide the export details. So I would never know what had been declared until HMRC wacked it? No VAT/Handling charge on this....gr8!
