I kind of asked this question before but in an obscure way. I've been happily using Triton 1.8 Ohm heads in my Melo III mini tank as it gives a nice MTL experience and want to rebuild them myself ('cos I'm tight ) All of the videos I have seen show coils with a different design to the ones I have. The ones I have have retaining lugs above and below the cotton, such as in the left hand head in the picture below. The one on the right is a clapton coil, but all of the videos for rebuilding use that type (Clapton or not). Looking closely at the bottom end of the one I have, it seems that there is a press fitted insert to which the lugs are attached, but I'm loathe to do any destructive disassembly just yet. Is there a version of Triton coil (regular Kanthal, not Clapton or other fancy wire) I need to look for that doesn't have the retaining lugs, or has anybody seen or figured out how to rebuild the ones that have?

domesticextremistIf thats what I think it is the rebuild video is this: (circa 2015) I tried the procedure on both original and clone Aspire Triton coils. The act of rammng the drill into the case distorts the case body and the game is over. You might try it, but as far as I can see the inner case sleeve that needs to be removed is seriosly tight in the outer case. Perhaps more patiece and care is required...I expire on that very early and continue to use the RBA. The clone coils from Fasttech (FT) suffer production faults..in that the two case parts are misaligned somewhat so partially blocking the vent holes. I left comment on FT about that.

Thanks for that - I like this guy's videos, Verri naissssssssss! No it is not the same - his coil doesn't have the massive lugs like mine and the left hand one in the pic above. However the idea of drifting out the inner barrel is sound. Taking out the pin on my one I see lugs on the bottom too, so I'm hoping both upper and lower sets are attached to the inner barrel, or I mght be bashing away for a very long time. Once I get the thing out, I will still have to figure out how to get the new coil and cotton back in...

Once I get the thing out, I will still have to figure out how to get the new coil and cotton back in... The coils you show above are the type I attempted to dismantle....with lugs. Nothing budged with the drill inserted/tapped/wacked and then the outer case deformed. It was indeed a worry as regards re-installing the cotton adequately having tried similar with Kangertech vertical coil innards. Leaking would so easily result. You can get the coils cheaper (£7.68 per 5) from FT and which requires Bitcoin. 1.8ohm coils: www.fasttech.com/products/0/10009799/2996000-authentic-aspire-triton-replacement-coil-head-5 Important information and restrictions: This item can only be purchased via Bitcoin (XBT) or gift certificates (store credits). Bitcoin is secure and popular. First time using Bitcoin? Click here to get started within minutes. Getting round the Bitcoin requirerment I can advise on...by cancelling/converting a different purchase to gift cerificates first

I have rebuilt the coils but I used a sub ohm coil and rebuilt it to 1.8 ohm as you say the 1.8 ohm coils have that bit in. That was the only way round it and trying to get that bit out was for me a no go. I have done a few but for what they cost and how long they last mite as well just buy new ones. If you really want to build coils get a kayfun V5 clone its way better than a triton and so easy to build on and only about £12 on Ft.

So the concensus seems to be that the stock 1.8 Ohm coils can't easily be rebuilt. Rather than buy a Triton sub-Ohm, I'll rebuild the EC heads that came with the tank, now I have figured out how to fix the excessive airflow.
