Tagging Raffles on this one if he still has his Got mine last week after 15 year old tricity bendix cooker died it don't make a lot of sense. I am going to need permanent ready meals in freezer as back up for another 10 years for when am confused and can't cook! I only just got my head round the old cooker! Any tips any one can give me? I have an argos one which the power supply falls out when taking the lid off Other than that it's fine It's weird - but cheap (a lot cheaper than a decent freestanding cooker) and been in use every day since monday. Hi Jane @johanino , I would have starved by now without my halogen oven, although they do take a bit of getting used to, regarding times and temperatures, but you'll soon get used to them. Any recipes on 'ready meals' I treat as a 'fan oven' for temperatures, but even then it will probably mean a few failures until you get used to it, but at least you can see how it's doing through the glass bowl. This is probably the safety feature, where once the lid is open, it powers off. Can I suggest you do a 'Google' for 'Halogen Oven Recipes' which will keep you occupied for ages. My biggest problem is when I do something in the 'oven', plus something on the hob or grill which needs to be ready at the same time... then you'll see Basil Fawlty thrashing his car!

Thanks guys This is more about my disability and hearing voices when cooking often. I have to learn all my recipes and practice, practice, practice them till they are second nature otherwise I don't eat I have a microwave and can do poached eggs in that now which is a blessing But with totally different temps and timings to the old cooker this is deffo going to take some getting used to.... Undercooked pizza last night but was still edible though a little doughy. Right now I am hob less but still Jane

Good luck with the transition to the halogen oven @johanino (Most of my cooking is in a combi-microwave and a little on the hob, which serves me/my requirements well. .... had to Google halogen oven! )

Think I'm getting there with this folks . Thanks for all the help. Lots of baking/loafie things past 2 weeks. Have foil in the bottom of the HO and found if you leave a baked/roasted loaf in it's tin for 5 mins after taking out of HO you don't need to turn it So I don't bake/roast stuff 20-30c less than recipe (none HO) states - I bake it 50-60c less and take it out at least 20 mins before stated time to avoid very burnt tops I learnt this on the 3rd attempt at fruit cake (well...banana bread) - but as you know I still have all these wonderful recipes now to learn till they are second nature Basic grilling is a lot easier though. remember you can't boil potatoes in an HO (need microwave for that) and start simple (sausage and mash is a good one) Jane
