Choosing a basic ecig that doesn't make me cough

Hi. I've tried ecigs several times in the past but unlike smoking it makes me cough,  tickling my airway unbearably to the point of needing my inhaler,  so I've not been able to continue.  I desperately need to give up smoking as the nurse thinks I'm developing copd but I can't cope with a coughing fit with each inhale. I read that to stop this you need a higher ohm around 2, and something about the mix. But I can't find any basic kits with ohm that high,  and a more complicated kit isn't for me yet. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone,  and hi!!

BUT I will make one suggestion. About the coughing.

We all coughed when we first started smoking. Took us time to get use to it. Vapor is not the same as smoke and many of us had that coughing in our early days of vaping. Simply - it's different and we are not use to the new and different stuff, so we cough.

Whilst different mixes/flavours and gear can help, try this in your early days: mix the vapor from your E-Cig with air. Do that by having your lips parted at the side of your mouthpiece so you draw in BOTH air and vapor from your e-cig. It helped me and a number of others lots.

In time you'll get use to it, and likely even to love it.

It might also be that you have more PG than you can comfortable use so trying a little heavier VG based liquid could be worth trying.

It might help to go with a lower nicotine eliquid too as the higher the nicotine the harsher the vape is on the throat.
It's a bit of a catch 22 situation though as you'll have to use it more frequently than you would a higher nicotine liquid to satisfy the nicotine craving.
But even if you use it to stretch out the time between smoking a cigarette while your throat gets used to the vape that's fine, if you can just cut down the number of cigarettes you normally smoke a day it's a start and as you get used to vaping you'll find you're doing less smoking and more vaping hardly anyone instantly quits smoking and starts vaping instead most people start out by doing both.
Another tip try out some different types of flavours don't stick to tobacco ones.
Speaking from personal experience i never found any tobacco flavour eliquid that really mimicked the experience of smoking so subsequently vaping for me was a bit of a poor substitute for smoking when i started which isn't a great motivation to reach for the vape rather than the baccy.
Once i started experimenting with some different flavour types though i found some i really liked so vaping became something i enjoyed rather than something i did just to quit smoking and i was motivated to pick up the vape more often than the baccy, that was a huge help for me.

Thanks for replies. Will have a look at that kit now. I have several friends who vape and although they coughed when starting not like me...i literally choke on. the first puff and can't take another. It takes several lots of inhaler to be able to stop the bout of coughing. I don't do the tobacco flavours, as I tried that in the shop and didn't like it. I've tried a blackberry i think it was and a menthol.

While the vape on the T18 is good, the battery doesn't seem to last, or at least on the one we have and a friend said the same. I would err towards an Joyetech ego AIO, or the AIO Box. Both are no fuss all in one units with a decent vape. Also both are very reasonably priced even in the UK.

Hi Chrissie,  I'm not using anything at the moment, I'm still smoking.  The last one I tried was one I picked up for about £15 @ cash generators as they sell them and liquid. I've seen the same one pictured online in a basic plastic packaging.. the info says to lessen cough use one over 2 ohm but they all seem to be 2 or under unless you go for complicated settings I'd rather not get in to yet. squarepeg this comes with 2.2ohm coils but you can buy 2.5ohm coils for it, they're pretty old hat now but if it's something with that high a resistance you need then try it.

Thanks very much.  I know nothing about resistance.  Just going off what I've read on my search re excessive coughing and that says higher ohm and higher vg. Thanks

Welcome aboard.
If inhaling it into your lungs is whats making you cough try taking it into your mouth and breathing it out of your nose, youll still get nic in your system.

That's true a higher VG would make the vape less harsh on the throat, trouble is the type of coil used in that tank don't work very well with high VG.
VG is a thick gloopy liquid like a syrup, PG is watery and will create the throat hit/harshness.
The coils in that kit need a fairly runny liquid because the wick won't soak up a thick liquid well enough and you'll end up getting a dry hit or a burnt wick neither of which you want.

A 50/50 ratio of PG/VG is the max amount of VG i would use with it.

It's not all bad news though because it's not just the PG that causes harshness so does the nicotine so a lower nicotine liquid would also reduce the harshness.
I would try a 12mg strength.

Ah, OK. Thank you both. How can you tell when you're buying your ecig what vg level it'll take?? All seemed so simple Wentnor article said get over 2ohm and high vg juice, but it really isn't!!
