Hi guys, I bought some pre-made 0.6 ohm clapton coils (24 & 32 AWG). I've tried using them in my Pico squeeze but just can't get them to heat enough. Rather than wasting them, I was thinking of giving them a go in my Merlin instead. I've tried a google search for "best wattage for 0.6 clapton" and didn't get anything useful. Could I please have some suggestions for a wattage range? Cheers

I tend to build around the 0.5 to 0.6 range on single coil drippers. For me something about 25w is my go to spot. You may need to go a bit higher with Claptons due to the surface area.

I'd guess around 20-25w

I often use pre-made 0.8 Claptons in the Merlin. Up to low-mid 20s at a guess.
I had hoped to double them up in certain atomizers but also gave up on that idea.

I watched a video that I cannot now find stating that a true clapton coil needs to be wrapped with at least 40awg to give a fast ramp up and quick cool down. Found the following give instant vapour and quick cool down. www.fasttech.com/p/6172501 (read the discussions/reviews) www.fasttech.com/products/7880901Not used these in a regulated but are instant boosh vapour on the squeeze single coil.

Around 25-35 but each to their own really. Find your sweet spot;)

The simple answer is to trust your taste buds, if it tastes right at whatever temp/wattage/voltage then it is right for you.

I got in up to 50w and the flavour was excellent but it was almost like the Merlin couldn't keep up and I started getting dry hits. I settled around the 25w but much cooler and less flavour.
Not convinced by the claptons, TBH. Think I prefer making the 316L coils

ghostrider1971 The thing with claptons, and all the other over-built coils, is that they need a "ramp-up" to get them to temperature. Once there, they perform much the same as single wire coils. So, the thickest (core) wire is what the power is set for. To appreciate those types of coil fully, you need a mod with pre-heat, which gets it all nice and warm by firing at high power for a short time before returning to your set power. A DNA ideally, but other mods can do pre-heat. Cooling them is the real issue though..... HTH

The resistance is somewhat irrelevant unless you are worrried about battery safety. The more wire you have the more power you need to heat the coil to working temp. 32AWG is not a good size for a wrap wire. You'll need 60w+ to get that going.

I use Claptons with a 26awg core and 32awg wrap - with a 2.5mm single coil between 4-6 wraps I find just under 30w does the trick for me - on regulated squonkers I sometimes go up to 35 watts, I only have problems with ramp up time when I try dual or quad Clapton coils.
