I've got a little problem I don't know what to do I'm scared that my batteries Might end up down the loo... OK, so that's my career as a rapper over Can anyone please give me any advice on wrapping batteries? Some of my 18650's are starting to look slightly worn - I wouldn't say problematical or dangerous but certainly a few chips in the wraps. Is it easy to do? Do you take off the original wrap first? Where is the best place to buy wraps from? How often should they be re-wrapped? Thanks, as always

As @dozerman I have bought pre cut shrink wrap and insulators from fastech for pennies. strip the old wrapper off and slide the shrink wrap on give it some heat with a hair drier and you are good to go. If your problem is immediate pm me and I'll sed you some wraps and insulators ghostrider1971

I can agree with others here - I bought some replacements for a few pence each from Fasttech. I carefully removed the old wrap (retaining the circular 'washer' insulator), slid the new wrap on and re-positioned the insulator holding it in place with some ceramic tweezers, then used SWMBO's hairdryer to shrink the new wrap on. A quick roll on a tabletop afterwards while the wrap is still warm/hot will remove any wrinkles. I was rather nervous, but having done this a few times now, am more relaxed about the process, which takes about a minute per battery start to finish.

It's easy. Just be careful when removing the old wrap, especially at the top where the positive is. Slice old wrap from the bottom and peel. Once the new wrap is over the battery replace insulator on top hold it in place with your finger and heat top of battery with a hair dryer. Once the top is curled over the insulator and it's held firmly in place heat the rest of the wrap until it's tight to the battery body. Allow to cool fully before next use.

I use a heat gun and certainly don't hold the insulator in place with my fingers.

One thing I will say (as mentioned by tonyb ), that 'washer' type insulator at the pos end will fly round the room if not held in place.

If anyone bought the paper insulators from fastech, they have a paper backing that peals off and the insulator itself sticks to the positive terminal.

I always re-use the insulator as they're not usually damaged, just the wrap. Get the girlfriends hairdryer out, hotter than the surface of the sun and saves having to buy a heatgun. I've found the Dirty Basterdz wraps the best and on top of that they look cool as funk so you'll be down with the kids if you have a see through door on your mod.
