We tried the garden process today but he literally shivered straight away and ran back to us and hide by our ankles. We will keep it up tomorrow and see how he gets on x Try hiding ( not too well! ) little treats in the garden for Frank, get him to associate going out there with something pleasurable . . . . and if he's bonding with the children they could help encourage him, dogs are quite curious and don't like to miss out if there's something exciting going on! Gentle persistence, with loads of praise . . . . Great tips mandy thanks. I think using the kids to entice him is especially a good idea.

Just remember he is a small dog and some need a little help to keep warm. Perhaps . . . . dog coats are for owners largely, as it makes us happy to think we're showing extra care for their well being and of course they look cute! Which the manufacturers naturally play on - there aren't many breeds of dog ( not withstanding those that are poorly/elderly ) who need to wear coats through actual necessity. Much of the current apprehension/shivers are likely due to the little world that Frank's so far known has been turned upside down, so building his confidence and making the outside space a fun place to be, in addition to having a purpose is good. It's a big scary openness right now when you're only small. There will come a time when you'll look back and wonder why he was ever reluctant to go outside Neil! How did last night go?

It's very like having a new baby thebishman...when he wakes, put him out...& when he's fed, put him out...these are the times when he is likely to go. It will get better...& you will not regret the unconditional love that you will recieve in the coming years...promise

Or as with our pup, when she wakes put her out, when she eats put her out, when she drinks put her out, when she whines put her out, when she sits up put her out, when she whines put her out, when she sleeps put her out, when she whines put her out and repeat ad fininitum, problems of rescuing a street dawg is that she wants to spend her entire life outdoors scavenging, digging, chasing, barking etc etc etc But she was house trained within 2 weeks to be fair to her and that must have been hard for her to understand that she couldn't just toilet anywhere and everywhere whenever she needed to go.

Yes today we have decided he will be going out in garden after every feed etc. He hasnt done an accident on the floor for a while now. He always finds a puppy pad. So thats progress.
Its the seperation anxiety he appears to be suffering with thats gonna be a challenge. Boy are going out with grandparents today so it will quieten the house down and me and mrs will start giving him alone time in small chunks to get him better and being alone. 2 nights of bad sleep is catching up on us now lol

Remember, if all else fails, the old Vietnamese saying "chips or rice with that" Hang in there, the time and effort will soon start to pay off And if you want to make him look festive. Morrisons have Christmas coats for dogs

TBH i am not sure on the idea of using "puppy pads" as in my mind all you are doing is teaching him to use them not to go outside. I personally would be doing as others have said .. outside....outside....outside as for the shivering he will get used to it mate. They survive out in the real world quite well honest. Also WTF is a puppy pad does nobody use newspaper nowadays.
