How the hell can FB ask them to destroy anything?
The contract wasn't between CA and FB the contract was between CA and the end user.
CA posted a questionnaire, the end user granted them permission to access their data it has piss all to do with FB other than the fact the questionnaire was posted on their platform.

FB can put what they want in their T&Cs so easy to see them being able to tell CA to delete data, CA let FB in and refused access to UK regulator: FB clearly have some contractual power over CA. I suspect that FB though that allowing users to grant 3rd parties access to their FB Friends data was a step too far (C4 news just saying this was a "Consent Decree" that triggered that). So had to remove it from their End User Agreement and put out a delete instruction to all apps that were allowed to use that right. And that is why they are saying peoples data was taking without their permission as the app just need their Friend's permission and them not to have locked down their privacy settings.

No, to make the most detailed marketing profile possible and sell them, bread and butter is for advertising.

But this stuff people can find people that will believe anything that supports their view that will repost it, so the lies get largely circulated in groups that already agree with most of it and not challenged by the broader public. EG I had someone I have known all my life convinced from stuff on FB (that's what he told me) that the week after the Brexit vote Turkey were going to be let into the EU, open their boarders and a huge number of jihadists will swam into the EU. To me it was such obvious BS Turkey are not getting into the EU for many years if they ever do, I'm sure there are examples on all sides this is one that I personally witnessed.

Even FB admitting 87,000,000 user's data "improperly shared", that's not what this thread was about, it was more about how much we give them for free, but this lot's company uniform probably involved a Stetson or a stripey top and face mask.

A more annoying revelation since the CA story broke is that people that have downloaded their photos etc so that they can close their FB account have discovered that previously deleted photos haven't been "deleted" from FB's servers. FB state that it's a bug in the server code but well......must be true.

On a different note i have it on good authority that a fully filled in Fb account is worth $1800 to the ad industry. And people wonder why FB is free

Serious response: I knew there was money to be made from that personal info, but I was surprised the value was that high. Phwoar, 'tis no wonder they are all over you trying to get you to post up lots of info.
