I guess it takes a girl to start a thread on the subject! A sport and a sporting event not to everyone's liking I'm sure - there are elements of the game that are far from mine, but the World Cup is one that I've always followed avidly for as long as I can remember through adulthood - never watched it as a child, my Dad was a boxing, tennis and swimming fan, he'd be turning in his urn right now! I accepted a long time ago that watching our own national team was never going to be a stress free or enjoyable viewing experience, what I love about the competition is seeing an ' underdog ' do well, the flair and artistry of some overseas players . . . . and largely hoping that the best team wins come the final. So I'm looking forward very much to the Spain v Portugal match due to kick off very shortly.

What an amazing game Two excellent sides, in a relatively easy group, could have gone for the 0-0 bore draw option.....an absolute corker

Couldn't agree more ghostrider1971 pure skill and determination from two very closely matched teams. It's certainly one of the best games I've seen in years. Lets hope that the rest of the matches can be at least 90% as entertaining.

We've got a really well organised sweepstake on the go at work, all sorts of prizes for things like first red card, first own goal, first penalty concedeed etc. I got Tunisia Too stubborn to conceed too many, too crap to escape a group with England and Belgium in it so of no use for most of the prizes and playing for the first time after most of the spot prizes will be gone. OG and penalty went today, if I can somehow avoid a red card in the four matches tomorrow, three on Sunday and the two early matches on Monday, I might be in business. £5 I'll never see again Speaking of the four matches tomorrow, I'll be watching them all! I've had iPlayer/ITV Hub open on my phone for all of the matches, but I really can't watch stuff while I work, so it has been a case of listening and flipping my phone case open to grab a quick look at the replays of any major incidents. Missing the match earlier nearly killed me. I've got half days booked for two of the three England matches, so I'll be safely in the pub with the lads shortly before KO, and the second half of the tournament falls on Wimbledon fortnight so I'll be nowhere near work. On some of those days I'll have the difficult choice between watching tennis, football or cricket. I'm counting down the seconds

Brilliant game, best I've watched in a long time, football how it should be played in my humble. . . . . watching the second half again now as it was so exciting!

I had a cheeky little each way flutter on Portugal at 25/1 before the tournament started - was trying to look for a bit of value rather than a 4/1 on France or Brazil.
I'm not sure they have got enough to get to final but if the tax/jail-dodger keeps firing them in like last night - you never know....

How crap were France in the first half? I thought we were in for a treat after the first five minutes, wasn't to be.
Kante did what he does well and Lloris looked solid, can't think of anyone else who played even remotely well. Only thing they scored highly in was play acting.

Not a classic. France really didn't deserve the points from that.
How pathetic was Lucas Hernandez? I lost track of the amount of times we saw him writhing on the floor in apparent agony after minimal contact from an Aussie. Top marks for clutching his head a few times when absolutely no contact was made with it. A 6ft or so defender resorting to rubbish like that? The game is gone. Fingers crossed he gets a good kicking in the not too distant.

Missed that match unfortunately with one thing and another, although I'll catch the highlights later . . . . watching Argentina v Iceland currently, quite a promising start for a good game. For the rest of the day now, I've nothing planned except watching football matches with a little online shopping at NomNomz during half time. Perfect range of activities in my world. ETA: Not a good day for Messi . . . . .

Yes Iceland, yes!
Two down, two to go. Time for a quick power nap before the Peru v Denmark match. A tough life, this.
