I just got to the till in Lidl this afternoon. Suddenly I, and the cashier, could smell burning!! She checked the till and other things - then it dawned on me where the burning was from.......... my pocket.....where my Pink e-cigs were!! They were in one of those soft leather glasses cases, standing upright in my pocket. Everything was red hot...panic........ The drip tip had melted where it connected All very embarrassing, the cashier was worried the fire alarm would go off and the people behind me were getting ratty. I did eventually manage to get it all apart. It seems the button managed to get stuck down somehow. I've only just got the hang of the damn thing!! Strange really, I was reading the thread on 'buttons' getting stuck yesterday. Anyway, paid my bill and collected my shopping..............walked sheepishly out of store, not looking back. MMa

Oh no, poor you MM!
Perhaps it's safer carrying batteries in a hard case?

OMG how embarrassing I would have died , Sorry to hear about your loss now btw also as I take it it won't work again. As already suggested I would contact the vender because I am sure that if the button is pressed for longer than so many seconds then it should automatically shut off I would have thought Mixdoctor

MM the same happened to me once almost, but I didn't realise until I went for lunch and put a very burnt carto to my mouth, it freaked me out at the time but I soon realised it was my fault and nothing to do with ecig. I have since discovered the off button and have no incidents since , battery also worked fine until I attacked it with a screwdriver anyway (thankfully Macca fixed that problem for me too:)) EDIT To add I am sure it is wasn't as big an issue for everyone else as it was for you and you had no need to walk out the shop sheepishly

I thought I just had it too tight in the soft glasses case and my pocket. The button is still squashed in. BUT, I did not know it had a three click button on and off!!!! I was so excited about it, I just got going and didn't read the instructions properly. I just hold the button in and puff, then let go!! It's probably a miracle I got it going at all!!!! MM

What has happened here is not an explosion as such, just the button being stuck on. I have also had this where a atomiser had melted a carto in my jacket pocket, I could smell burning and when I took it out of my pocket it had melted the catridge. It was in the days when we used atomisers and cartridges. Ego/Riva batteries manufacturers have to walk a fine line with how much pressure is needed to activate a device that is why the 3 click on-off was introduced. These batteries also have a 10 second cut off so whilst they can get hot enough to melt a cartridge or drip tip it is unlikely that they can burst into flame and this WILL NOT cause a battery to explode, the electronics should fuse well before that happens. Or the battery will run out. It feels especially hot as its metal which is a good conductor of heat. You need to make sure the button is kept clean, juice around the button can dry to a syrupy consistency making the button stick, also as it is sticky dust will also stick in this goo making the problem worse. The solution is to clean the button with no carto attached with a wet wipe or alcohol wipe whilst pressing in the button hard to get down the side of the button as much as you can. You can test the button by pressing it again repeatedly with no carto attached, if it is still sticking keep on cleaning it until it does not stick. I hope this helps.

Glad you survived your experience ok MM. Hope you don't mind but I've modified your thread title, as it could give the wrong impression of what occurred, should anyone google ' exploding ecigs ' . . . even though you said it tongue in cheek. Don't want to give the anti's anymore ammo than they're probably enjoying collecting.

Hi Perps, I took my title (tongue in cheek) in response to Gordy's post 'exploding e-cig' Trouble is, it doesn't come over as that in the written word. I have absolutely no problem with you changing my title though. Cheers MMa

Hi Des, thanks for your post at #10. I will have a good read of it later. But it seems as though I can resurect the problem one?? It is looking cleaner today except for the atomiser where the black covering is rather shriveled but I can replace that atty. And the drip tip has melted where it enters the 'juicy' bit. But I have another of those. Back later Cheers again MMa
