Yup here we go again....I spose we have to see this as we are a new generations guinea pigs to a certain degree. But to report a very rare trigger seems weird...makes me wonder when smoking was popularised did that get smeared over the press...so we're in to the 15th year may be and only a few deaths...mainly cos Darwinian awards type of people....stills sounds like a better solution if you ask me!!

I don't like to see anyone in bad health, especially a young lad, but I wonder, like in the USA if he was vaping Vitamin E oil and possibly cannabis? It has come out recently in the USA although not widely reported (no surprise) that nearly all those that had lung conditions were vaping liquids with Vitamin E oil and some sort of THC. EDIT - His Doctors said: Ewan developed a condition called hypersensitivity pneumonitis - something he was breathing in was setting off his immune system, with catastrophic consequences.
"You get an over-exuberant inflammatory response and the lungs pay a price and develop respiratory failure," Dr Bhatt said.
One of the most common forms of hypersensitivity pneumonitis is "bird fancier's lung", which is caused by particles from feathers or bird droppings.
When scientists tested the two e-cigarette liquids Ewan had been using, they found one of them was triggering an immune reaction.Do we ban keeping Budgies? CONCLUSIONHe had a RARE ALLERGIC REACTION - so do we ban Peanuts? more people have died from allergic reactions in the UK from peanuts. Allergies happen, I'm allergic to some things (thankfully not many) most people are. Seems to be "knee jerk reporting" to me. Also - this happened in 2017, why wait until now for it to be reported? is it on the back of the issues we've seen in the USA?

Sounds like a severe allergy to one ingredient in the liquid he was using.

Exactly..... there's an issue in US so we need to find an isolated incident and beat the crap out of vaping with it

From here << link >>Located through a post from jessica in the vapers.org threadDr Nick Hopkinson, British Lung Foundation Medical Director and Reader in Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College London, said: “It’s possible the patient’s illness could have been due to an allergic response to a component of e-cigarette vapour. However, in this kind of condition it can often be difficult to make an accurate diagnosis or know for certain what the cause is. This kind of lung disease can sometimes occur spontaneously without any obvious trigger.” That last sentence says it all to me really.

From the latest Vapers.org thread post today I saw extra comments about this. From this link
a) the above quote is repeated b) c) d)
Which pretty much repeats what we long term vapers have been saying all along.

If vaping had real detrimental affects i think a few of us would have shown them by now nearly 10 years vaping my chest is still clear no cough and no being out of breath and that applies to everyone i personally know. The fact that it's younger people and the vitamin E issue in the states says to me this is not normal vaping causing these issues it's kids being trendy and just vaping things that aren't meant to be vaped. These days the kids don't want to hear go to such and such forum and read up on whats safe they listen to their friends and some dubious types in vape shops we have one in my town who goes into a back room when some young un's came in.

If you think he might be peddling something dangerous to underage people have you reported it?

I didn't see anything to report just that while i was there about 15-20 young people came in most were sorted out at the counter but six went into a backroom with him. After looking around for a while decided they were way too expensive wanted £4.50 for a single subtank mini coil and their liquid was very expensive so i left. These days reporting anything to our local police is an exercise in futility as they don't seem to bother doing anything hell took them two days to show up at a house 50 metres down the road from the police station luckily it wasn't serious not that it would have mattered.

CDC Confirms A THC Additive, Vitamin E Acetate, Is The Culprit In Most Vaping Deaths.December 20, 2019
A health-surveillance system put in place after the terrorist attacks of September 2001 has been used to pinpoint the cause of the vaping-related lung injuries that have killed 54 Americans and sent more than 2,500 people to the hospital.
Using this system, researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that the lung injuries rose sharply in June of this year.
Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC's principal deputy director, says this sharp spike strongly points to a single culprit for most of these cases: vitamin E acetate, an additive found in illicit cannabis-containing vapes.
"That doesn't mean that there aren't other chemicals that can or are causing lung injury," Schuchat said during a telephone news conference. But backed with additional data about vitamin E acetate found in lung samples from people who were injured after vaping, she attributes the bulk of the outbreak to that additive.
