I can report that none of the measures we've introduced have made any significant difference to the availability of basic products - a delivery of toilet rolls barely made it off the pallet before they were sold out.
So from today the company has decided to employ security guards to help safeguard staff from the level of abuse we're getting . . . . says it all really.

Shocking Mandy. The staff in Aldi's i went into yesterday had obviously had enough. I politely asked where something was and pretty much got my head ripped off! I nearly said something but then i thought no...they are probably needing to vent so I let it slide.

The horrendous behaviour of some people never ceases to astound me. Supermarkets are doing the best they can with what they get and their workers should be applauded..not abused.

I'm sure if they knew, they would thank you for holding back Neil!
A little later less than an hour, after the toilet rolls ( 3 very large pallets full! ) had sold out we had a man and his elderly father come in to buy some - so we gave him a few from the staff/customer toilet stocks. If those earlier hadn't been so flipping greedy, who really needs 3 x 16 rolls at once, then there would have been some for him.
On the reverse side, we've a food bank contribution bin that's been really well supported - so not everyone is thinking only of themselves.

I too work in a supermarket, but for an FM company. I'm glad I do not spend that much time on the shop floor. The abuse some of the staff have been subjected to defies belief. I think I would probably end up attacking someone very violently. As a very early starter I have to question the sanity of people. 5.30am and the car park is full waiting for the doors to open at 8.00am When the gun sounds its like watching seagulls racing to the waste tip. Only since the middle of the week have the store imposed a limit on items. Stable door, horse, bolted springs to mind.

Not too long ago, we were the most polite nation in the world. Always putting others first.
What a decline into beastly behavior.
I used to be proud to be British.

I always rated Britain somewhere below but still close to Japan with regard to politeness. So what happened? Has the average IQ in Britain dropped by 50 points in the last decade? People can’t seriously believe that we’re going to run out of food or toilet rolls because of a bleeping virus. I had to go back to Aldi yesterday afternoon because in the morning hectic I forgot the cheese and my weekly reward (Kinder egg) There were still toilet rolls and Kleenex tissues but nobody wanted them. So what was the bleeping war about in the morning?

Tbh the staff in aldi wernt british. And honestly, based on my experience on holiday, there are way worse traits in other nations when it cones to rudeness. The germans were topping the damn right rude charts for my 2nd holiday running

I rely on home delivery for groceries have been housebound for health reasons for ages nothing to do with the virus. Only 3 supermarkets deliver here Tesco, Ocado and Sainsbury. Visited the Ocado site they aren't taking orders, the Tesco site had delivery dates listed up until the 20th of April but no available slots at all, managed to get an order in with Sainsbury. Got an email from Sainsbury which they always send on the day delivery is due listing items they don't have in stock or have substituted. Judging by the list of things they've listed as unavailable with no suitable alternative the poor delivery driver is being sent out to deliver me a single packet of biscuits and even that is a substitute item.

Unfortunately panic breeds panic and that is exactly what we are seeing here it’s very frustrating and if everyone purchased normally then this whole thing would be a lot less stressful as there is plenty for everyone.... what I would like to know is where is everyone getting all this money from as I work full time and get a half decent wage but even I sure as sh!t can’t afford to buy on that scale!

Only since the middle of the week have the store imposed a limit on items. Stable door, horse, bolted springs to mind. The hope was I believe that people would in general be self regulating in their shopping habits . . . . as time has gone on and the situation unfolded, it's very apparent this is not case - far from it. It was with reluctance that our company imposed limits - but in the interests of trying to provide fairness, it had to be taken.
Even so, our tills are not equipped to automatically recognise an ' over purchase ' so monitoring has to be done by individual cashiers, which can lead to friction.

On the other hand I (I am 73) have had two notes from younger neighbours through the door asking if we want shopping collected etc. On Monday a complete stranger (orgainised by the local council) is voluntarily doing my 95 year old mothers shopping for her. It is not all bad.
