Nicotine

When vaping, are you actually inhaling nicotine?...If so, is this not still harmful?.....probably a stupid question, but I'm sitting here, Riva in hand, chilled & pondering the meaning of life & it just popped into my head...........as you do........

I don't know Chris however I do know if you do it all day on a highish dosage it can give you shaky hands, palpitations and dizziness so make sure you have a break from my own experience

Your not inhaling the other nasties though like tar. If you choose not to you don't even have to inhale when vaping just hold the vapour in your mouth!

In a perfect world nobody would smoke or vape. I see vaping as a harm reduction strategy and feel that it can't be much more dangerous than nicotine gum, inhalators etc

There's no medical evidence that it's less harmful then smoking. I know, because the BMA told me and there's no way they'd be in the pocket of the big pharmaceutical companies who make NRT products. I'm sure it's possible that water, nicotine, food additives and flavourings are just as dangerous as the 4,000 carcinogens, poisons and other chemicals found in cigarette smoke. In fact, everyone I know who has died has drunk water or eaten food at some point in their lives, often both, which just shows how dangerous they can be.

That's exactly what I've done Chris. I've tried numerous ways to stop smoking which didn't work probably as I didn't really want to stop. I knew it was bad for me and my health was suffering, i'm not getting any younger and I'd like to be around to see any future Grandkids grow up!

I got an e-cig simply to cut down and be able to satisfy my habit in places where I could no longer smoke. I didn't plan to give up ciggies, that just happened and I'm pleased it did

And, anyhow, smoking was never as much fun as vaping

Chris, nicotine isn't a carcinogenic & is considered to be as harmful as caffeine, as long as you don't OD on it.

I'm sure there'll be other people who know more than me about this (and hopefully they can correct me if I'm wrong), but two things I've heard about nictone are: on its own (ie, divorced from the tar and all the other chemicals present in cigarrette smoke), its basically a stimulant, rather like caffeine. Also, it's still controversial whether any significant amount of nicotine is actually absorbed when you vape. (I think this is something to do with the molecules of vapour being smaller than the molecules of smoke, but I could be wrong).

I'm a nicotine addict who's chosen to replace one poisonous, cancer-causing, lung-destroying, expensive, over-taxed, foul-smelling habit with another, harmless, cheaper, sweet-smelling habit, in order to get my nicotine fix.

I'm happy with that.
