I am hoping to produce a quarterly eMagazine that can be downloaded freely from the CAM-VIP site, printed off and taken to your local pubs. Full details can be found on our website, but I would love other people to contribute in any way that they can. If you would like to help out, please get in touch camvip.webs.com/apps/blog/show/15886402-coming-soon-the-cam-vip-emagazineRussell

Cheers Andrew - I will hold you to that one I'm in the process of contacting other people who would be excellent contributors - I just hope they accept the challenge and join in. In the 2 years since CAM-VIP was formed, there have been many vaping and pub related successes which we can feature in the first issue to get the ball rolling. The more fun and feature packed the first issue is, the more likely people will want to join in for future issues Russell PS Chrissie, I will be after you too!!

Thanks Chrissie Just a few words to those who do not know about CAM-VIP and what it stands for; The Campaign for Vaping in Pubs is an attempt to spread the word about ecigs to those who smoke and/or work in the pub trade. It's aims are to show 'vaping' in a subtle yet positive light to those who may never have heard of it, or those who have had bad experiences of the 'overly advertised inferior products'. The CAM-VIP eMagazine is aimed at the casual non-vaping reader. The articles and features will all be vaping related but the emphasis will be on showing vaping as a part of other real life activities rather than concentrating on the ecigs themselves. Imagine you are in a doctor's waiting room. You get bored, so you pick up a magazine that you've never heard of before and flick through it. You mainly look at the pictures but you read the odd article. The pictures show you the wonderful British countryside, great old fashioned pubs and traditions and it fills you with a warm sense of nostalgia for the (never existed) 'Good old days'. This is the type of eMagazine we are going to produce. The hope is that 'subliminally', the message about how fantastic ecigs are just sticks in the mind of the reader. Features that we are hoping to include so far are from the following people (these are just working titles btw); Mojo Morgan - his band The Hoochie Coochie Band all vape and they tour the South West of Wales Mark Davis - Norwich City of Ale MacCumhail - Lone Vaper from Edinburgh and Glasgow area Tim Boniface - Eastbourne and his experiences as a vaping DJ Andrew - Ecigs and the markets of South Yorkshire Chrissie - How the internet and forums can help the 'Isolated Vaper' Alix Martin - Alston a vaping town As you can see, the places and people are more much of a feature than vaping itself. If you have a story to tell - and some great photos, please get in touch All the best Russell

Good starting point.
I'd suggest that you encourage people who want to tell their personal stories to chop a good third, preferably more, from their wordcount after the initial submission. Alternately give them a challenging target wordcount before they start.
Not because I'm grumpy, but because it concentrates their mind and enhances readability without sacrificing useful detail or a sense of the writer's character. I'm happier to read half a page than three pages if the information/entertainment content is roughly the same.
I expect that is also true of other vapers, and particularly semi-interested publicans with stuff to do, because in my experience most casual readers prefer a tight writing style, and often bail out if they don't see one.

Thanks for the input 2risky. I agree that some of the pieces I have compiled so far could do with a bit of friendly trimming, however I think a good mix of the concise and the verbose tends to work well in a magazine - it is about getting the balance right I have NEVER tried to produce anything like this before, so the 'working document' in the link above will be seen to change in its style and content over the next month or so whilst we try to find the right balance. Lots of shorter bits and pieces will be in there and the 'features' will be less prominent in the finished eMag than they are now. As we are hoping to produce an eMag in each quarter, some of the 'features' currently in the file may be either put on hold to a future issue or 'serialised'. But it is important to encourage others to contribute as it makes for a more varied and interesting read. Keep the suggestions coming please and if you would like to contribute in any way, please get in touch Russell

I think a mixture of the concise is better in many respects, unless the intention is only to fill up space. It's possible that's just me, but I have some relevant experience. I realise it's work in progress. I don't mind long articles, but there is literally no downside to saying 'It's great. I need something just like that, only half the number of words.' This is to a large degree what an editor does with new or newish writers. It benefits them and results in much better copy, albeit a smaller volume of text. On the question of helping, if you want someone to subedit (correct copy) I'm happy to do that on this small scale. It's not the job of a sub to set wordcount, so I promise not to chop things up gratuitously, just correct what's there. PM me and I'll give you an email address where you can send stuff, if you think it would be useful. If I have time and a decent idea I might submit some verbiage too.

A flip flash version of the eMag in progress can now be found at camvip.webs.com/spreadtheword.htm If you can contribute in any way, please get in touch. The content does not have to be about vaping, we are more interested in the people, what they do and the places they live If you have a favourite pub or tipple, let us know. If you have an unusual job, hobby or just want to promote a business you may have, let us know! Cheers Russell

The deadline for contributions is 1st July. After then, the articles will be free to download, print and take to your local.
We are looking into a limited run of real magazines that we can send to 'vaping' pubs and hand out at Vapefest, but that depends upon funding.
