Hi,
Apologies if it already ready exists, but is there a list anywhere on the forum that explains any risks? I've done quite a lot of research, but would like some more in depth and up to date info.
Please help!

Well, I know Dr Hillary Jones is or was very much on-board with e-cigs, but as for the effects they have the only info I could find was that it causes a tightening of the blood vessels in the lungs? I believe it's similar to what happens to an asma sufferer? However, I'm sure this effect only lasts a few mins at most and has no lasting effects. From what other info I've found, most doctors are in favour, but that's about it. Any one have anything else?

I always just compare it to the other nicotine products on the market. You can chew, spray, sniff, inhale or suck any nicotine product bought over the counter or prescribed on the NHS, so it would be very unlucky if vaping was the harmful method of nicotine delivery??
I do understand your concern though!

It is an interesting subject, I am not sure if there is a list, so here is my 2pence worth.
I have been vaping for 2 years and I get through around 5ml e liquid a day. So I would imagine over that time if there were any immediate health effects I would have noticed. I vape using PG based e liquid and from what I have read and experienced, unless you have some unusual reaction and sensitivity to PG, it is pretty harmless.
I remember some time back when people were saying that PG was antifreeze and people were imagining that vapers were inhaling the same stuff put into cars, however that is misleading as the antifreeze used in cars is ethylene glycol, highly toxic. Propylene glycol on the other hand, has some anti freezing properties and so is used in any application that has the potential for ingestion, such as water pipes, and othe food manufacturing equipment that needs to be stopped from freezzing up.
Another factoid about propylene glycol is that it is fed to calves, to fatten them up. That indicates just how non toxic PG is.
The biggest unknown in terms of health risks, is flavourings really. usually about 10% of an e liquid is flavouring, but a good percentage of the flavouring is again PG. It is best to go with water soluble flavourings , not just for the sake of your attie, but also as anything water soluble is easier for the body to break down and get rid of. In general if a flavouring is food grade certified, it is likely to be harmless, but there have not been tests done on the effects of inhalation of flavourings, although as many years have passed with people vaping this stuff, I am yet to hear of anyone who has had health problems associated with it and if inhaling flavourings were harmful, then chefs the world over, stuck in a kitchen breathing in the smells of cooking all day, would probably have noticed.
Nioctine of course is well documented, a toxin, but not proved to be cancerous as things currently stand. It really is in quite minute quantities in e liquid. The e liquid labels sound scary, as to be CHIP compliant they have to have certain text related to neat nicotine. E Liquid can contain nicotine, however it is in a very very dilute form, and the diluent it is mixed with makes it much less readily absorbed through the skin, so the dangers are relative to the dilution.
Consider that a medium strength e liquid may have 18mg of nicotine per ml of liquid. There are 1000mg in a ml. So it is a very small quantity of just 1.8% nicotine. I am reminded of homeopathy, where all kinds of substances, including ones that are highly toxic in their non diluted form, including arsenic for example, are used for health benefits, in their very dilute form. I am not personally into homeopathy, nor do i know much about it, I am just reminded of it and know that that is how it is supposed to work.
I would never recommend someone who had never smoked, to take up vaping, but for tobacco smokers, I can only see health benefits in the switch to vaping. I know that as an ex smoker my health has improved so so much over the last 2 years.
I would be really interested to hear what you have read in terms of health risks assocaited with vaping....

There is, or can be a risk with anything you inhale. However, most research (at the moment) seems fairly positive, but until full clinical trials are published we don't really know. Gotta be better than fags though, hasn't it?

All I know is I feel a lot better since I stopped smoking, have stopped coughing and find riding much easier. So if there are any issues, I doubt they are any worse than smoking. So far the only damage is to my wallet.

Here's to giving up without actually giving up! Cheers everyone!

There's an increased risk of Alzheimer's and senile dementia with vaping.
At least, there's an increased chance of living long enough to get them.
