Hi
Im getting a bit worried about wether or not this e cig is doing me more harm then what I thought. Some people are saying its absolutely harmless and others are saying its not. some people are even saying they havent scientifically proven the damage that they do or do not do, surely they cant release something onto the market with out knowing it its safe I just pressumed it was harmless as it doesnt exactly say smoking this kills like a packet of fags does for example

Chris . . . ecigs haven't been around long enough for a definitive answer on their absolute safety to be guaranteed.
But, it is safe to say that they are significantly healthier/safer than conventional methods of tobacco smoking.
Personally, I was chucking 40/50 cigarettes a day down my neck before switching to vaping and I'd have carried on doing that had it not been for discovering vaping, so it's a no brainer for me really.

I've said it before but I don't think you can really say something is safe until long term research is done I'm talking 20 years plus , therefore no-one knows for sure , what I do know for sure is that cigs have at least a 66% chance of killing me and that I can breathe better , smell better and taste better with vaping for now that's the only assurance I have but its enough for me, EDIT Crossed post with Perpy- great minds and all that

There's been no reports of anyone dying from using e cigarettes, unlike smoking. That's good enough for me.

I wrote a lovely long speach about the wording of reports to make them sound how they want them to sound and hiding facts in the figures (or omitting them) but the thread got moved and it was wiped. Not going to be typing it out again. Chris, anyone can make anything look good or bad by hiding some truthes and inflation others. when you read a report, look for the bits that are missing, like levels of the bad stuff, and how much of the bad stuff is needed to be a problem. For my experiance, vaping is so much better than smoking, and thats that.

If I put this purely down to my own experience over the past 4/5 months then I can report the following to be true. Before I swapped from 30 a day Marly habit I had a constant bubble in my chest that could be heard when breathing in and out and would frequently lead to me coughing a lot. I also had yellow teeth, clothes stunk of smoke as did my car. Exercise was difficult but not impossible but I was regularily out of breath when doing physical exercise.
4/5 months on and my chest is a clear as a non smokers, my teeth are now white again, I do not collapse when doing exercise and my general health is better. This is not a coincident.
The issue here is that there are big Pharmaceutical companies that are due to make a huge loss if we all swap to E-cigs, as are the Tobacco companies and the Government will lose out on their tobacco tax as well (that is a lot of money believe me). All these groups are going to spend all the money, time and resource to either tax us, scare us or try to ban us, the issue is that the only things in ecigs are batteries, eliquid and your chosen delivery system whether that be a cartomiser, tank or other.
They have already tested Eliquid until the cows come home and cannot find any reason to ban it, batteries are just that batteries and will fall under the usual expectations of manufacture and safety guidlines, the carts, tanks etc do not contain anything that would cause any safety issues either. So in other words they will be really hard pushed to find something to critisise or ban, this of course leaves the door wide open for our government to regulate and tax the crap out of liquid Nicotine, but that is another tjhread and another conversation....
In a nutshell, be wary but try not digest everything in print or what your mate down the pub says, normally both are very ill-informed. If you have some time on your hands watch this you tube clip, this alone made me sit up and think what I am doing is waaay better than smoking analogues:

As ever (a good thing too) this question arises. I think that we're all grown-up enough to make decisions about any risks there may be and especially when nobody really knows if there are risks or not. I feel fine BTW

Before I began using e-cigs approximately 2 years ago, my lungs were in a bit of a mess. The previoius November I had what was suspected to be, swine flu. On top of that I have asthma. I use a little tube devise which measures my lung capacity and in November it dropped from around 280 to 120.
It was neee naw time into the hospital on 2 occasions and eventually I recovered AND returned to smoking my rollies, but my lungs did not. My little tube I blow into told me I was hovering around the low to mid 200.
Fast forward to 2 years ago and when I began using e-cigs and what a difference. I now sit at 350-400 on my little device and I believe 400 and slightly above is the normal lung capacity for an adult female.
I think I have had one cold in the past 2 years where previously every cold turned into a chest infection and lasted months and that was frequently.
I could offer you loads of anecdotal tales from my customers and how their health and fitness has improved since using e-cigs.
But as has been said before, it is early days in terms of research.
For me, the benefits of being able to breathe well are beyond any concerns I would have because I know what the alternative is, and trust me struggling for breathe is not pleasant.

It's either smoking or vaping or last option is giving up completely and deep down I feel and we all know that smoking is 100% unhealthy so how bad can vaping be! I don't think we are losing anything by vaping, but we have got a better chance of feeling and being healthier going by what vaper's on tis forum have said. So basically it's smoke with over 4000's of chemicals, proven health risks, vape and hope for the best or give up both completely...there basically is no other way out.

I try not to be evangelical about vaping, as I know that everybody has to find "their time" to quit. But..... as far as I'm aware tobacco is the only legally-sold product that is known to kill up to half it's customers

And I try not to be blase about possible vaping health concerns v known health risks from tobacco.
But there's just no doubt whatsoever in my mind, that vaping is a significantly healthier means of obtaining a nicotine fix.
No doubt whatsoever.

I started smoking at a time when nearly everybody around me smoked, In fact it was unusual for someone not to smoke. A few years later they started pointing out the dangers of smoking... and I still smoked, after all..they couldn't possibly mean me! every year after that fags were being blamed for more and more serious illnesses and deaths.....But that couldn't be right... after all I knew people that had died of these illnesses and had never smoked..... so I kept smoking. I was taking more and more chest infections that were taking longer and longer to clear up.. Doc said it was the fags!... but that couldn't be right ! so I kept smoking! They put smoking Kills on fag packets... but that couldn't be right! my mother was 80 and had smoked from the age of 12... so I kept smoking. Then I started to struggle on hills, couldn't catch my breath when playing with the dogs...maybe it was time to listen to the doctor... tried NRT.. a few times ...without fail..3 months later ..I was still smoking. Then I found ecigs... 1 month 7 days and guess what.... I've stopped smoking ! I don't feel much different yet though the morning cough has gone... and I haven't reached the dreaded three month mile mark yet so who knows. But there's one thing I do know... Vaping can't be any worse than fags, just look at the banners of the people on here and listen to their stories. And.... Vapings much more fun... It'll do for me

re using e-cigs I am going to listen to whatever my body tells me plus some common sense
If I find e-cigs don`t suit me or make me ill, I will be the first to say so
I have my asthma to consider too
but I am still convinced that e-cigs will be better for me
