I would be more enthusiastic if it was anything to do with amateur sporting prowess and less to do with unpleasant nationalistic triumphalism and tacky corporate sponsorship deals.
Living in London it is going to make the place a nightmare for travel - not to mention the soft martial law and arms fair showcase that this particular one is being turned into.
We should get back to what it was pre-1936 - just track and field, strictly amateur and over and done with in less than a week.
Bah, humbug.

This is going to be a lot of a rant, so forgive me…
I am sick to death of the Olympics already! If I never hear the word again it will be too soon. I work in IT for an outsourcing company, and the area I work in is fairly specialised (I work on SANs, so don’t ask me to fix your computer, I can’t do it any more ). So many of our customers are now coming back and saying ‘…and this needs to be in place before the Olympics’. One of the company’s told us that one of their most important systems that hasn’t been backed up for six months needs to have back ups in place ‘by the start of the Olympics’. WTF! What were they going to do if the system had crashed in the last six months and they couldn’t get it back? Another of our customers has asked for a dedicated on call person over the Olympics, I’m glad it’s just the one because the team isn’t that large. Some environments have got change freezes in place, which means that much needed routine maintenance can’t take place, I just hope that nothing goes wrong with those environments until the change freeze is lifted.
Add in to this the fact that the company won’t let us have any time off over the period, so we aren’t going to be able to watch most of it, and you can appreciate why I’m fed up to the back teeth of hearing about the Games. See, can’t even bring myself to type the word any more! I’m fed up of hearing about it every day on the radio, on the TV – Aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!
All of this on top of trying to put right what the Bangalore team have done wrong, training up new people, whilst trying to do my normal day-to-day job with all that that throws up. Oh, and if anyone can explain to me what it is that OFCOM does that is so important during the Games, please let me know. None of my team can work out what it is. Utility companies, yes, I can understand them. I’m just so glad that we didn’t win the bid for the IT systems for the Games, I think we’d all be in straight jackets by now.
Stressed, moi?

I'm a bit ambivalent about it TBH, I was thinking about watching Team GB in the football, I missed the mens game the other day but by all accounts it was not a very entertaining game. The thing that does get my goat is the CONSTANT adverts for it on the BBC, at every moment they are plugging it and even when Sky Sports was free at the weekend in every ad break you had them trumpeting about x number of channels being dedicated to the Olympics in HD. We KNOW it's on! We don't need to be told at every conceivable opportunity! >

Well, I for one will be watching , well glued actually to the TV. I love all sports and admire all the competitors who have worked and trained so hard to get there, they deserve the support of the public. I will be rooting for my Country to win medals.

It's a shame that we can't work out a way of holding such an event that doesn't entail adversely affect people's day-to-day lives and isn't swamped by commercial interests.

I'm also a bit curious as to why McDonald's of all places is a sponsor? #attachment# it's hardly like any of the athletes would be training and then 'oh yes I'll go and have a nice healthy McDonald's ' haha I just don't think it puts out a very good message to young children, an unhealthy fast food company sponsoring a sporting event?!?! Subway might've at least been a slightly better option, at least you can get quite a few relatively healthy subs

I just hope the games don't go with a bang it would just be typical something kicking off - still, as long as they all have fun, then I guess that's good. No real interest, might watch the four legged, head and tail events (horses), but since nothing there has a motor, 2 or 4 wheels, then it's going to be a no no and it will be avoid the TV time We have to re-tune the freeview as well as they're taking over one of the children's channels

nothing there has a motor, 2 or 4 wheels There's BMX's with 2 wheels. Does that do anything for you? Quite entertaining races, I seem to recall from the last Olympics.

Today was my first day of driving into work now the lanes are open, what a complete and utter western, not only do you have to avoid the olympic lanes, you have to deal with the fact they have shut other roads, eg slip lane onto the A12 from Leytonstone and Redbridge are closed! on top of this one of the lanes on the A13 heading into Canary Wharf shut this is on top of everything else.
