Well, fibreglass will withstand temperatures up to 1000c so it doesn't burn, it just allows the juice to be transferred along the fibres to the coil. No burn, no harm is the way I see it. If you used, for example, cotton wicks they will burn then you're inhaling the by-products of combustion

If you're concerned about the possibilty of loose fibres, then boil your wick first Boo, then let it dry out fully before you use it.

We also know it's sterile, there'll be no bacteria as the high temperatures will kill it stone dead.

I think unless you're going to harden the wicks and flake it into tiny fibres and in hale it, I doubt harm will ever occur............but this i suppose paves the way for wadding and elements rather than wire and wick? I'm sure folks have tried it, but most are 12v (thinking of Suethe Smoke Units Model Rail ones)I dunno, I think you'll have more risk playing with rock wool roof insulation! Used properly, my opinion, it'll be fine, still better than smoking, or drug taking etc.

You can get silicosis from inhaling glass fibres ie., using silica (glassfibre) wicks..You can also get lung disease by inhaling cotton fibres..The chances of this happening are quite small if you keep the wicks wet.. The best way of avoiding this is to stop putting anything other than air in your lungs.. Water whilst safe and essential to drink will kill you too if you get it in your lungs..So stop worrying and carry on..

Try using stainless wicks or hybrid stainless-cotton wicks. I have used cotton wicks and they wick great and the flavour is very good but they burn and char real easy. And once they burn, it's coil/wick change time..The problem is you can't rely on them when you are out and about..Long term cotton fibre inhalation can also cause lung disease.. I was only trying to get you to worry less, not more..

As macca has said: The best way of avoiding this is to stop putting anything other than air in your lungs.. Vaping is a healthier alternative to smoking but still has some risks, but I dont kid myself that it doesnt have an element of risk to it. It is the safer option imo than smoking and inhaling 4000+ chemicals inc - benzene; formaldehyde; ammonia; acetone; carbon monoxide; tar; arsenic and hydrogen cyanide. I would have thought using a mobile phone, drinking water, eating processed foods, using a pc..car..sunlight..bbq`d food...artificial sweeter...flying..inhaling petrol fumes..naturally present radon gas.......micro-meteors... The list is endless, its calculated risks in everything we do. There is a massive thread about wicks safety on the ECF forums if you have time to trawl through 100+ pages.

There is a massive thread about wicks safety on the ECF forums if you have time to trawl through 100+ pages. And I read all of it and it left me none the wiser.. Someone on there was discouraging the use of SS wicks too..I finally got fed up and put it out of my mind..
