I don't like the like system at all..I wish no one had ever thought of it.. Sometimes, it's used like a silly weapon behind which cowards hide..
If you don't agree with something say so, or if you agree say so..

How can liking a post be like a "silly weapon behind which cowards hide"? I could understand what you mean if there was a dislike or smite button - hence why there isn't either of them.

When there is a difference of opinion in a thread or topic, the Like button becomes very similar to a smite/dislike button..

I often use the like button to acknowledge when someone's taken the time to answer and I have understood, sometimes I feel anything else I post would be just drivel. It's just letting them know I have read their reply and I am grateful

If someone has helped me out I usually make the effort to post a short message thanking them for their time and guidance..

I stand corrected! More often than not I do thank people but after every post in the same thread would be a bit OTT

Annie is right, if everyone posted saying they liked a post it would become OTT & you'd end up getting loads of +1's to scroll through, as used to happen on UKV.

Sometimes, I don't know what to say, to add anything of value to a discussion . . . so I ' like ' a post to show the poster that I have appreciated their comments. Not dissimilar to Annie really.

Still don't like it..People do resort to it when they have run out of arguments and use it just like they would a dislike or a smite button and I don't like that very much at all..They know who they are.. If someone is just making a post with +1 without anything to add then that's up to them..At least if they don't like something they will have to make their opinion known.. Maybe someone will just post a -1.. Maybe I am just old fashioned, but it also somehow seems to be a very lazy way to thank people...If three people help you, you would thank them all, not resort to interpretive dance or gestures..

I like your comment I also acknowledge that my post on this subject did not come over very well. I am by no means a rude person, I am from a generation where good manners were everything. I appreciate very much all the help I have been given on this forum. I obviously need to think twice before posting in the future, in case it is misinterpreted.

Sometimes a gesture, or pic can say a 1000 words, whilst i agree it is no replacement for good manners, it does have it's place.

If someone has helped me out I usually make the effort to post a short message thanking them for their time and guidance.. I would do the same, nice manners to post a thankyou or similar for being helped............ But, if you helped someone out, and it all went over my head and I couldn't help that person out, I would 'like' your post for helping............................. Ie, the Penelope thread, I can make a wick and fire up the few things I have that allow me to re-wick but I cannot help someone to the same technical ability as yourself, Blakey, Gordy etc, so I would like your post.
