A question about the "Like" button

Fair enough..Maybe I am blaming the gun instead of the person who used it to kill someone..

But this like system somehow also elevates the importance of one post and reduces the importance of other posts..because it is used for multiple emotions..

1. It's used for thanking.

2. It's used for acknowledging that you post has been read.

3. It is used for appreciation.

4. It's used as a way of disliking someone's view even though you may not fully agree or understand the opposing view.

I find that it dilutes my enjoyment of the forum, so I blocked it with a script so I never see who "Liked" what unless I choose to stop the script..I would rather people expressed themselves in terms of thanking, appreciation or dissent.

I'm the same. The orange ones are the only ones that taste like they're supposed to.

Good to know about the \facebook thing too. My friends would get really fed up wth my forum posts showing up on their feed.

even if it is, everyone is entitled to their views and can use the 'likes' as we wish.... interpretation of how they are used or perceived are also up to the user

at the end of the day they are a bit of added fun for the most part

Don't bother me anymore and anyone can use whatever they like..I don't see them because I like not to see them..So if people can't speak out their likes or lack thereof are lost on me..

I always thought a THANKS button is more appropriate for a forum giving helpful advise, like those found in android forums..

If the majority of members want the like button to be a thanks button, I can easily change it. However, I think that would be completely against what you have said earlier in this thread Macca.

If someone has helped someone else in a thread, then I'm sure the person who has been helped will thank them by posting a reply, saying thank you, rather than just clicking on a thank you button. Whereas with the like button others that are not directly involved with the help given can show their appreciation of how helpful the poster/posters have been.

The android forum and many other major forums "Thanks" works like this..



It's meant to be used by others who found the post useful..For example a post in the tips and tricks forum or a review which someone found useful or some advise they read posted earlier for someone else which helps them out.

I don't usually contradict myself in a few hours..Maybe in a few days, but usually not on the same day..
