I have a problem with 'hot' batteries. Iwas just vaping on my Rainbow eGo Twist at 4.3v with an evod @ 1.8ohms and the blasted thing got so hot I couldn't even touch it. This is not the first time this has occurred but then it was a Vision Spinner. Everything happens for a reason but what is the reasoning behind this ? A 1.8 atty at 4.3 volts will equate to about 10 watts which will get the atty pretty warm. The heat from the atty will transfer to the battery too, but it shouldn't be too hot to handle

I'm no expert on batteries but I'd be tempted to put that one aside for now and use one of the others

It shouldn't make a difference whether its a full or a partial charge. Is it just one of the batteries that's getting hot?

It's normal for batteries to get warm, but not 'very hot'
What type of batteries are they, and what charger?

I'm just going on with giving it a shot. Microcoils for protanks, then maybe trying silica wicks on a dripper?... if I can manage that then I shall crack on up, one day I might be smugly wrapping mesh and telling everyone its simple enough ( thats the eternal optimist in me ) if not - least I can learn to recoil for my protanks, single coil As tokari said a few posts above, all you have to lose is the cost of a bit of wire. If you can do it, brilliant. If not, it's not the end of the world and you can fall back on pre-made coils or replacement heads. But you never know til you try

There's a lot of baloney been written about steeping IMHO. There is only one necessary ingredient. Time. If you're making your own juice you need the patience to set it aside (for several weeks in some cases) and let it do it's thing. If you're buying ready-made, most are good to go when you get them. The vendor should tell you if they need steeping time. That's not to say that even pre-made won't benefit from a bit of extra time. The exception to this is Red Astaire. Extensive global research has established that pre-made is fine straight out of the postie's hand. DIY and you're looking at - oh - a cuppa between making and vaping

edit : btw I also thought micro coils are smaller - hence all my questions - and micro - ehm does mean small I think the name comes from the fact that because you squish the wraps together the resulting coil is narrower?

OK. 'Normal' coils vs Micro-coils. Normal coils are made of thinner wire, they have fewer wraps, and it's important that none of the wraps touch each other, or else you get shorts and/or hotspots. It's very difficult to change the wick without also changing the wire. Normal coils can be bought or made. Micro-coils are made of thicker wire and have more wraps. They are deliberately made to touch each other by heating/squishing so that the whole coil becomes one big hotspot. Wire can be left in place because it's stiffer and the wick changed. Micro coils cannot be bought (yet) so have to be made.
