I eventually found that a Kick isn't necessary, a super clean and Luner serviced GGTS with a 1.3 ohm coil on an Ody and 24mg juice will have all the throathit and clout that you need. I found the same. The pre made coils I got from cam all come in around that res. And it doesn't need to be as clean without the kick. But I just put the kick in anyway. Nice one skwoddy.

,then burned some juice of it,heated it again Once you've heated it over the gas a few times, you don't need to heat it again after you've put juice on. Just burn the juice off and put more juice on, to burn off again. Repeat that several times and it should wick well

"All I can say is I use 100 percent vg to layer the wick several times." Do you mean you use VG to quench the red hot wick? Dipping in VG then re-heating? Thanks - Bob No, I I heat to red hot then quench in water several times (maybe 3 or 4) Then I burn of the water only, and drip vg down the length. Light it with a yellow flame lighter. Watch it burn off and extinguish naturally. Another line of vg, burn off and extinguish naturally etc etc I repeat that many times. Then, in as per macca video. I hold the wick flat horizontal. I slowly drip several drops onto the tip of the wick only. Watch the wick magically sponge up the vg to the opposite end. Light it, and watch the flame burn down to the opposite end and the wick is ready.

Example of overhang. You can see the wire sticking out and down from the brass nut. Scott YouTube videos whereby he twists and snaps off that wire flush may look good (and let's face it, it feels good when we do it) don't help with making adjustments.

It must be a fluke as I've yet to come up against any probs with mesh wick that haven't lasted more than a few minutes. All I can say is I use 100 percent vg to layer the wick several times. Maybe 6 or 7 burns. I don't dip it in water during these burns. I ensure the wick is sponging liquid, (or wicking) at the end of this.
I use .20 kanthal
If i get a hotspot at the top, i nudge the top towards tge post, or away from it, or to the left or right.
I leave about 4 mm of over hang of wire from the top post (careful it doesnt touch anything). So i have something to grab hold of to make any adjustments. Sometimes i can simply bend this overhang in another direction, or extend that overhang by unwrapping from the centre post slightly and that has killed the hotspot.
Hope that helps, but maybe im just lucky.
