So, Postmodern, I don't need both PG and VG. I prefer mostly PG - maybe 70:30 or 60:40 pg:vg ratio. Does that mean I would be better buying a large bottle of PG nic concentrate and smaller bottles of the pg and vg dilutants?

Ah, now I get it. The diluents are for diluting the concentrate. Oneday: you should have been a teacher. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks Oneday and Frogster. Frogster: I only know about Stevia Leaf thanks to that thread. I have every intention of reading it all again once I have the ingredients.
I'm a little (understatement) confused about the nicotine, pg and vg liquids. On the Vape Escape website they have bottles of PG and VG unflavoured nicotine liquid. They also have bottles of what they call Diluents. Should I buy one bottle each of the PG and VG nicotine and one each of the pg and vg diluents? What is the purpose of these diluents if I get PG and VG nicotine? Now you know why I need the Idiot's Guide.
Thanks, also, to Postmodern Smoking. You must have replied while I was typing my message.

Thanks Oneday. I'm reassured that they aren't some chemical that could blow up the house if I get the proportions wrong. I have some Stevia Leaf on the way. Will that do instead of Ethyl Malto?

Oops, I'm in trouble already. Blunt needles I understand; I have seen recipe threads and links to e-juice calculators. Ethyl Malto, Vape wizard and Dulce de Leche have me stumped. What are they? Patiences is something I'm trying to acquire with very little success but is permanently on my list of New Year's resolutions.

I'm going to try mixing my own liquid. I usually rely on the Idiot's Guide when learning something new. There are some really informative threads on here and I have read them - honestly. Trouble is that my brain won't absorb the info until I have some of the ingredients in front of me. So I need to make a list of basic requirements before getting started.
As far as I can tell, this is what I will need:
1 bottle of nicotine liquid
1 bottle of PG
1 bottle of VG
An assortment of flavours from Flavour Art or Cupcake World
A weighing scales
Some empty bottles
Some syringes
Rubber Gloves
Is that the lot, or have I missed anything?

Thanks Dizzi. I had already ordered the stuff in Skwoddy's link. I only ordered one. Hope that's enough.

Thanks Skwoddy. I had never heard of Stevia Leaf until I read that thread. Unfortunately, I didn't read the last sentence where Perpetual said it can be added to pre-mixed liquid. Pardon my stupidity. A search for the powdered stuff led me to this link: www.stevia-trade.com/index.php?befehl=products&art=2Do you know which of the powders would be most similar to the stuff used by Perpetua?

My long term aim is to mix my own juice although it seems a daunting task. Meanwhile, I'm looking into a means of sweetening my pre-mixed tobacco flavoured juice. My tastes keep changing and I'm finding that I prefer tobacco flavours but as time goes on the flavour isn't sweet enough.
Would it be ok to use Stevia Leaf sweetener in my El Toro tobacco juice? If so, should I just dilute the powder and add a few drops to the bottle of El Toro?

"Reputable" can mean anything from low cost to fancy flavour to speedy despatching. Most people recommending products have never seen the process and aren't sufficiently knowledgeable to be making judgements about what is safe and what isn't. I would feel more confident buying from a place that is subject to random visits from someone who knows what to look out for. Sorry to the op for taking the thread off topic.

My tuppence worth:
Despite being a recent convert to vaping, I have already converted a couple of others. One of them was in a bad way with COPD and already feels the benefits after only three weeks, so all's good there. I'm a bit reluctant, however, to try converting anyone else, especially young people, because of the lack of studies into the effects of vaping and, consequently, the lack of regulation. Whilst I know that the work "regulation" is like a red rag to a bull for lots of enthusiastic vapers, it seems to me that the vaping industry is mostly internet-based where any rogue can set himself up in business.
Some of my concerns are:
What does any of us know about the contents of the e-liquid and the conditions in which the liquid is mixed? For all we know, vendors could be mixing the liquid in an unhygienic environment such as kitchen/shed/bathroom with pets in close proximity. This won't be a problem for those who mix their own, but the majority of us buy pre-mixed liquid.
How much is known about the possible harmful effects of long term (or even short term) use of atomisers, cartomiser, clearomisers, etc? I use a vivi nova and from what I have read so far, there seem to be doubts about the safety of the plastic and silicone in the vn.
No point reminding me that vaping is safer than smoking. I can figure that out for myself. Trouble is that we don't know how safe it is and all it takes to destroy the reputation of vaping is one popular item such as a vivi nova to be proved to be harmful. That's where regulation come in. In the absence of government regulation, isn't it in the industry's interests to get its act together and self-regulate? There might be short term gain working in an unregulated market, but long term success surely lies in consumer confidence.
I would feel a lot more confident spreading the word about vaping if I could point people to manufacturers/vendors complying to strict standards of quality control. I have no problem recommending vaping to older smokers like me but I would rather let youngsters go the cold turkey route than recommend to them something that still has possible safety issues.
Sorry if I've gone off in a tangent but I feel that the industry needs to sort itself out before consumers can confidently lobby the authorities to make vaping "respectable".

Thanks everyone for the good wishes.
Padiho: We had a balcony thinking I could smoke there. Shock horror when I found out smoking was banned except in designated areas. Having to travel a few decks up or down for a smoke really put a damper on that holiday. Worst of all were the first thing in the morning and last thing at night smokes where nipping outside in my pj's wasn't an option. This vaping lark is turning out to be very convenient although I'm still reading and learning hoping to be convinced that it's "safe" rather than "safer". Right now "safer" is good enough for me.

Well done addict, it's easy isn't it? Keep it up Looking at your banner, you've been a heavy smoker, start booking the cruises with the money you're saving Yes, Andy, I was a chain smoker. Now I'm a chain vaper. Funny you should mention booking a cruise. I actually decided to try quitting one more time after a cruising holiday. Having a smoke on that ship was a real effort. The leftover cartons of fags were bought on that holiday. Now that I'm smoke-free the next cruise should be much more enjoyable.
